At a time when the country is fighting the Corona menace, hand sanitizers are a very important tool to keep the virus at bay. Joining this fight are students from Manipur University who have themselves prepared alcohol based hand sanitizer and have distributed them for free among the COVID19 front line workers.
From 19 March 2020, 12 research scholars and 6 M.Sc students of department of Chemistry at Manipur University started preparing alcohol based hand sanitizer under WHO formulation. They worked in coordination with Registrar, VC in charge, MUSU (Manipur University Student Union), of Manipur University. CM Shri N.Biren Singh appreciated the initiative of the students and gave some financial assistance too.
This team was formed to work voluntarily as there was lack of sanitizer in the market since hand sanitizer is one of the important essentials to prevent people from contracting COVID 19.
One the Hand sanitizers were prepared, they were freely distributed mainly among the front line workers, essential service personals, staff of government and private hospitals, local clubs, student organisations and among many local communities. Soon the student made hand sanitizers were distributed in different parts of the state. Till now, 12500 bottles of 100 ml each have been distributed across the state of Manipur.
