Crematorium Workers Donat

In a noble gesture conveying the spirit of fighting the menace of COVID19 together, graveyard and crematorium workers of Bengaluru have donated salary of entire month to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. 148 such workers have donated their salaries for the cause which adds to ₹20.72 lakhs. CM BS Yediyurappa has commended the workers for this act which will inspire many others.

They handed over the cheque for the collected amount to CM Yediyurappa in Bengaluru at his residence on April 21st. A Sowriraju, a graveyard worker at and the Kalpalli crematorium near Cox Town and General Secretary of Burial Grounds and Electric Crematoriums Workers’ Union was present on the occasion. Minister for Medical Education Dr K Sudhakar who is also the head of the CM Task force for Corona was also present.

The graveyard and crematorium workers earn a very meager salary yet they pooled their salaries together and donated for the cause of fighting the Corona virus together as a society. Most of the workers do not get their salaries on time due to official apathy and they make do with whatever resources they have.

As the Corona infections spread, the graveyard workers are working with bare minimum safety gear and PPE suits to safeguard themselves during cremation. Most workers depend on the money given by the families/relatives of the deceased but even they have come together to share the burden of the society during these testing times.
