BMS national president Sajinarayanan CK offering meals to migrant workers in Kerala
New Delhi: Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the country’s largest labour organisation, welcomed the package announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to deal with the lockdown following coronavirus outbreak. The relief package of Rs. 1,70,000 crore focuses on tackling the financial difficulties that are being faced by the deprived people i.e. migrant workers, farmers, urban and rural poor, divyang, etc. Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Yojana, which is a part of the relief package, will cover at least 80 crore poor people. “The announcements make it clear that India is all prepared to defeat COVID-19, and with its, all might the government is committed to ensuring ease of living to all citizens of India. BMS thanks the government for this quick and sincere response. Following our principle of responsive cooperation, we are all set to follow the instructions and are ready to help the government in this war against COVID-19,” said BMS general secretary Virjesh Upadhyay in a statement on March 26.
Meanwhile, the BMS started providing meals to the migrant workers in Delhi, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, etc. BMS president Sajinarayanan CK distributed food packets to migrant workers in Kerala. There are reports of offering meals, grocery kits, bed sheets, cooking vessels, safety marks and sanitisers to migrant workers in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura and Bihar, and many other states. Some states have decided to continue these services till April 15 or the lockdown is over, said BMS north zone organising secretary Shri Pawan Kumar.
