Richa Bharti Case: Ranchi Court reviews controversial order to distribute Quran after state police?s request

The Judicial Magistrate Court in Ranchi, which asked Richa Bharti to distribute copies of the Quran as a condition for bail, has taken back the weird condition after the request made by the investigating officer and the state government.
The police officer who investigated the case, formally requested the court that the condition for donating the Quran be done away with due to “difficulties in its application”. The state government had also requested that the bail order be modified.
Following the controversial order, there have been widespread protests on social media against the condition for bail. Besides protests, people in large numbers have been raising fund to legally support Richa Bharti as a part of a social media campaign.
Registering her strong protest against the order asking her to distribute the Quran for bail, Richa Bharti had asked, “Do courts ask Muslim accused to do Ramayan or Durga paath?” Slamming the court verdict she said that next time, the court may ask her to convert to Islam!
