Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and the chief of Islamic terrorist outfit Jamat ud Dawa (JuD) has been arrested from Lahore in Pakistan. He has been reportedly sent to judicial custody after being detained by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Pak police. Hafiz Saeed is presently facing 23 terror-related cases in Pakistan.
Even though Hafiz Saeed was arrested earlier for terror funding, he was granted bail as the government failed to produce ‘concrete evidence before the court’.
The Pakistan government has been under tremendous pressure from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to act against terrorism. FATF has placed Pakistan on its “grey list” of countries over terrorism financing.
Founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed is a UN-designated a global terrorist. The US has announced a bounty of $10 million for Hafiz Saeed.
