1.MARITIME INFORMATION SHARING WORKSHOP 2019
The Indian Navy hosted a Maritime Information Sharing Workshop (MISW), under the aegis of the Information Fusion Centre—Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), Gurugram. Over 41 delegates from 29 countries of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and beyond participated in the two-day event. The workshop was inaugurated by Vice Admiral MS Pawar, the Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff. In the course of two days, the MISW acquainted the participants about IFC-IOR and its information sharing mechanisms. It also promoted sharing of best practices in this field. In the overall context, MISW aims to yield better response to the myriad security and safety challenges that IOR faces. Towards this, participants were exposed to issues such as maritime terrorism, piracy, human and drug trafficking, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; and the legal perspective of combating these challenges.
 

 
 

 
 
2. US NAVAL SHIP ARRIVES AT VISAKHAPATNAM
American Naval ship USS John P Murtha (LPD26) arrived at Visakhapatnam Port on June 11, 2019 on a four-day visit. On arrival the ship was given traditional welcome with band in attendance. The ship is commanded by Captain Kevin Lane. During the four days at Visakhapatnam, the crew would be involved in professional interaction like cross deck visits and informal engagements during social functions and sports fixtures. The ship would also be undertaking a passage exercise with INS Ranvijay whilst departing Visakhapatnam on June 14, 2019.
 

 
 
3. DRDO LAUNCHES TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATOR VEHICLE
DRDO has successfully launched a Technology Demonstrator Vehicle to prove a number of critical technologies for futuristic missions from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. Various radars, telemetry stations and electro optical tracking sensors tracked the vehicle through its course. The data has been collected and will be analysed to validate the critical technologies.
 
4. CABINET APPROVES MEMORANDUM OF COLLABORATION BETWEEN INDIA AND KYRGYZSTAN ON JOINT RESEARCH WORK ON HIGH ALTITUDE BIOLOGY AND MEDICINE
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) between India and Kyrgyzstan for collaborative research work on High Altitude Biology and Medicine with an aim to strengthening mutual relationships in science and medicine, especially in high altitude biology and medicine. The MoC will help in understanding the physical and mental picture of soldier system at high altitude and mitigate the high-altitude related maladies by using Yoga practice, herbals and neutraceuticals in Indian and Kyrgyz solders/population.
