CPM Kerala state secretary?s son booked in rape case in Mumbai: Party will not intervene in the issue, says CPM central leadership

Putting the ruling CPM leadership in a fix, the Mumbai Police has filed a rape case against Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan (37), son of the CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. He was also charged with cheating, following a complaint filed by a Mumbai-based woman, who was early working as a bar-dancer.

Originally from Bihar, the 33-year-old woman alleged that Binoy sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marriage. She also said that she had a child from the relationship, he said.

The accused, Binoy claimed that it is a case of blackmailing. He said he has already filed a complaint before the Kannur IG against the woman for the same. Kannur, a stronghold of CPM, is home to Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

The accused frequently used to visit the dance bar in Dubai and the woman got into a relationship with him, an official told media.

According to the complaint, the woman said ‘she came to know last year that the accused was already married following which their relationship turned sour. She also alleged that the accused threatened her with dire consequences, the official added.’

Based on the woman’s complaint, Binoy has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 420 (cheating) and 376 (rape), Oshiwara police station’s senior inspector Shailesh Pasalwad said in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the CPM leadership maintained that the party will not intervene in the issue.

There has already been a spate of allegations against the sons of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Allegations of financial irregularities and fraud came up against Binoy Kodiyeri. And his younger brother Binish Kodiyeri was an accused in several criminal cases.
For the last two years, sexual assault cases against women have been on the rise in the Kerala unit of the CPM. Most of the cases leave unreported and the accused go scot-free using their political influences. Recently a female Dyfi worker left the party after she was denied justice in a sexual harassment case. She had lodged a complaint with the party after she was sexually assaulted by P K Sasi, MLA of CPM from Palakkad. The CPM and its feeder organisations had reportedly de-promoted all the comrades who supported the victims. This shows the CPM’s double standards on the issues related to women. They had raised the Sabarimala case as an issue of gender equality and conducted a Women’s Wall against Hindus in the state. Now the Netizens are questioning the party leadership as to why it is silent over the gross gender discrimination and increased number of incidents of sexual violence against women perpetrated by the Communist leaders and their family members.
