A day after BJP launched ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign for the coming Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed his name on Twitter to ‘Chowkidar Narendra Modi’, with the party president Amit Shah, several Union Ministers and party workers following suit.
Narendra Modi had asked people to take the #MainBhiChowkidar pledge against corruption. “Your Chowkidar is standing firm and serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar,” Modi said in a series of tweets. “Today, every Indian is saying. Main Bhi Chowkidar,” he added.
The campaign has put the Congress on the back foot. During the 2014 elections, the infamous ‘chaiwala jibe’ by Mani Shankar Aiyar was backfired for Congress, that followed the ‘Chai pe charcha’ campaign and turned out to be a massive campaign.
Several Union ministers, national and state leaders and workers of BJP have already made the “chowkidar” addition to their social media profiles.
