Two Congress workers killed in CPM-Congress clashes: Rahul Gandhi condemns murders without naming CPM

Two Congress workers have been hacked to death by a group of CPM goons in Kasaragod, Kerala. Kripesh (21) and Sharath Lal (24) were brutally murdered on Sunday night. Police said there were some clashes between Congress and CPM workers a couple of days back. The murders are suspected to be a fallout of the skirmish.

The opposition Congress has called a 12-hour shut down in Kerala on Monday in protest against the murders.

“CPM activists are behind this dastardly attack. Going by accounts of witnesses it is well-planned and executed political murders. It is sad the party still feels it can silence its political opponents by annihilating them,“ KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran said.

“The CPM is trying to destroy the Congress party using the party goons. The Youth Congress activists were attacked without any provocation. They were not involved in any kind of criminal activities. No cases were there against them. The government should identify the culprits and arrest them as soon as possible,” Congress leader and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala told media persons.

Though the state Congress leadership has strongly criticised the CPM, its national president Rahul Gandhi refrained from blaming the CPM for killings his party men as both the parties are forging a grand-alliance against BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Rahul condemned the killing in a carefully drafted tweet, without naming the CPM. “The Congress Party stands in solidarity with the families of these two young men & I send them my deepest condolences. We will not rest till the murderers are brought to justice,” he tweeted.

The Congress leadership that observed a vow of silence when the RSS workers were butchered by the CPM goons, is now crying foul over the CPM’s ‘politics of annihilation’.
