A function held to distribute flood relief among the flood victims in Sri Lanka
Colombo: In the last week of December, Mullaitivu and Kilinochi, the two districts in Northern province of Sri Lanka were heavily affected by rains and floods. Around 50,000 people were displaced. Sewa International Northern Province chapter planed for some relief work.

Mosquito nets were distributed for prevention of diseases at Kanagaratnapuram Village in Mullaitivu District. In Samanankulam Village, essential materials, especially materials needed to celebrate Pongal festival (the Makar Sankranti) were distributed. Notebooks were distributed to the needy students who are entering 2019 academic session.
Relief material ready for distribution among the affected people
According to Pradeep Kodippili from Disaster Management Centre of Sri Lanka, more 2,661 families, totalling up to 8,539 people were displaced and they were housed in safe locations on higher ground. He said in addition to that about 150 houses were damaged, some severely, as the flash floods swept through districts of Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Jaffna. He said the displaced people were housed at 52 centres.
