For the first time in the history of Kumbh Mela, transgender groups get ‘Akhada’ at the Kumbh Mela 2019.The head priest of Kinnar Akhada on Friday announced their first-time participation at the Kumbh 2019. They called it a step forward towards acceptance in the society and termed it ‘Akhada beyond sexuality’.
According to news agency ANI, Acharya, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi said that it is a wonderful situation to come to this divine Prayagraj Kumbh.
She also said that the participation in the Kumbh is about mainstream society accepting the transgenders. “This is Akhada beyond sexuality. The creator is within us and once we perish we will go back to him. Our doors are open for all,” she told agency.
Pavitra, Secretary of ‘Kinnar Akhara’, said, “Public and all the devotees who are here have supported us & shown lot of respect for us. We are happy that people here have accepted us.”
Meanwhile, she also mentioned the transgenders’ issues and said how their community is striving to make its place in society. whether it is art and culture, religion. They are here only to give unconditional love to all irrespective of creed, color or background, she added.
Reportedly, Pavitra, Secretary of Kinnar Akhada told the agency that she has been with the Kinnar Akhada since its formation. And for the past two years, they have been preparing for this.
Commenced on January 14, the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj will continue till March 3 at the Triveni Sangam. Millions of devotees from all parts of the world are expected to arrive in the city.
