BMSRM workers at the Jantar Mantar during the Dharna
New Delhi: Bharatiya Medical and Sales Representatives Mahasangh (BMSRM) held a Dharna at Jantar Mantar against anti-employee amendments brought by Central Government in Sales Promotion Employees (Conditions of Services) Rules. The dharna was inaugurated by BMS president Shri CK Saji Narayanan. He said the amendment is totally anti-employee and hence be withdrawn. National president of the BMSRM Shri Ram Kumar, zonal organising secretary of BMS Shri Pavan Kumar and general secretary of BMSRM PN Pradeep also spoke.
After the dharna, a delegation of BMSRM called on the Union Labour Minister Shri Santosh Gangwar and submitted a memorandum. The Minister told the delegation that the amendments would be pursued further only after consultation with the trade unions. The memorandum said only the industries notified by the Government should be covered by the rules. Notified industry system should be avoided in the definition “establishment”. Any work related to promotion of sales or business should be covered under the Act.
The memorandum also said the Managerial and Supervisory employees drawing up to Rs 25,000 per month should be covered by the rules. The Government proposal of creating new exploitative categories like fixed term employment, temporary, apprentice, trainee was opposed. Age of retirement should be 58 years in all cases. It should not be subject to any one sided job contracts imposed by the employer. There should be effective grievance redressal mechanism even for establishments employing less than 20 workers.
