Dedicated to the theme ‘Bharat-Gaurav’ the 64th National Convention of ABVP witnessed the participation of 3700 delegates and exhorted the youth to play a pro-active role in the society
Ahmedabad: “Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is a formidable voice of students on various issues concerning the education and social issues. It not only raises the concerns but also comes forward with solutions. I appreciate its ‘Mission Sahasi’ and believe that such programmes of empowerment will create a fearless environment for girls,” said Vice President of India Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, while addressing the 64th National Conference of ABVP on Dec. 29.

Shri Naidu suggested the ABVP to come forward in disaster management projects, skill development and promotion of government programmes also. “We need to stand together and fight problems like casteism, regionalism, oppression, Naxalism, socila evils like dowry, etc. Nationalism must be the priority and nothing else,” he said emphasising on ‘Reform, Perform and Transform’ as transformation is the need of the country. The thought should be progressive and not destructive. “We should be proud of our culture and being an Indian. India is moving ahead and the world is looking at India. Youth can bring about constructive change in the society,” he added.

On December 27, the Conference was inaugurated at Sabarmati riverfront by former ISRO Chairman Padmashri Dr AS Kiran Kumar and Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani. The inaugural ceremony was preceded by hoisting of the ABVP flag by national president Dr S Subbaiah and general secretary Shri Ashish Chauhan. About 3700 delegates from all over India presented a view of ‘Mini India’. Also, 45 delegates from Nepal participated. The theme of the Conference was ‘Bharat-Gaurav’ (pride of India). The conference venue was named after Dr Vikram Sarabhai.
Youth Award to Sandeep Joshi
The 28th Prof Yeshwantrao Kelkar Yuva Award was presented by Vice President Shri Venkaiah Naidu and Governor of Gujarat Shri OP Kohli to Shri Sandeep Joshi of Jalore, Rajasthan. Presenting the Award Shri Venkaiah Naidu said the Award is a big motivation for thousands of youth. Shri OP Kohli said Prof Kelkar was a simple person with a great vision. Shri Ashish Chauhan said the purpose of the Award is to encourage young social workers and to appreciate their work for society. The award includes a cash prize of Rs one lakh, citation and a memento. Receiving the Award Shri Sandeep Joshi thanked the ABVP for this motivation.
In his inaugural speech Dr AS Kiran Kumar said he felt highly delighted over the naming of the conference venue after Vikram Sarabhai who was the founder of ISRO. He congratulated the delegates on being a part of change and a glorious India.

Shri Vijay Rupani said he is a Chief Minister later and a ABVP member first. He recalled his time as an ABVP activist. He said the ABVP has always fought against casteism, oppression, naxalism and regionalism.
Vote for Glorious Future
The participants at the 64th National Conference of ABVP took a pledge to vote for glorious future of the country. They pledged that they would use their valuable right to cast vote in the election for electing an empowered, able and responsive government. They also took an oath to run awareness campaigns for electing representatives committed to national interest, people’s welfare and eternal value system with focus on developmental governance.The Conference adopted three resolutions. The first resolution demanded to refine the system of Graduate Education in the country. It demanded immediate implementation of the National Education Policy to bring about a system which embarks on constitutional values emphasising on Indian ethos and focuses on employability of youth to take a firm step towards realising the aim of ‘Bharat Gaurav’. In second resolution the Conference called upon the youth, intellectuals and all sections of the society to stand with the meaningful attempts to take the country forward and own the responsibilities. In third resolution the Conference stressed that the Supreme Court must be conscious in the matters of public faith. It said the makers of the Constitution acknowledged the existence of public faith and by internalising the comprehensive general will of the people they constructed institutions of equilibrium & stability. But in recent times some comments of Supreme Court have gone against the spirit of people.
Shri Ashish Chauhan said ABVP would establish conversations for constructiveness in the campus. ‘Mission Sahasi’ to train more than 7 lakh girl students in self-defence is an example of constructiveness of the ABVP. Dr S Subbaiah said the ABVPians are not afraid of hard work and struggle as they come from a legacy of legendary personalities who are not afraid of sacrifices.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, in his message, appreciated the ABVP for bringing up issues and discussing them in a constructive manner.
On 2nd day a huge Shobha Yatra was conducted from riverfront to Panchayati Square. It was warmly welcomed at different places. On third day the national organising secretary of ABVP Shri Sunil Ambekar spoke about the dynamism which ABVP adapts to change to transform the society. “There is an existence of 4N people in the society who focus on being ‘Neutral, NOTA, Non-reactive and Negative. But, the ABVP karyakartas believe in 4P—Passionate, Prepared to Choose, Pro-active and Positive,” he said. Ten parallel sessions were organised on the topics including urban naxalism, thoughts of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Positive Development in North Eastern States, Female Education and various International Perspectives, etc.
The Conference also witnessed the presence of extraordinary women’s group, “Mothers on Wheels” who covered a distance of twenty- three thousand kilometers covering sixty countries in their car. Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Nitin Patel and Education Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama were also present.
On last day, the new national executive of the ABVP was announced. Dr Subbiah and Ashish Chauhan were re-elected as national president and general secretary respectively. Dr Subbiah announced the new executive. The five national vice presidents are Shri Anand Paliwal, Shri Chhagan Bhai Patel, Sushri Uma Srivastava, Shri Raman Trivedi and Shri Basant Ku. National secretaries are Shri Narendra Sapam, Sushri Nidhi Tripathi, Sushri Hema Thakur, Shri Abilash Panda, Shri Bhupendra Nag and Shri Shyam Raj. Shri Sunil Ambekar was re-elected as organising secretary and Shri KN Raghunandan, Shri J. Laxman, Shri Prafula Akanth and Shri Srniwas were re-elected as joint organising secretaries.
