New Delhi: Veteran Sangh Pracharak and Akhil Bharatiya Sah Hit Raksha Pramukh of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram Omprakash Aggi passed away at Mohipura Village under Badwani District of Madhya Pradesh on November 7. He was 91. Aggi ji worked with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh for a long time and held various important responsibilities there for 45 years.

Born at Toba Tek Singh Village under Layalpur District of undivided Punjab in 1928 to Shri Tolaram ji and Smt Jasobai hi, Aggiji was one among the six siblings. He came into the contact of RSS in his student life and completed graduation from Phagwara. He became a Sangh Pracharak in 1948 and held various responsibilities in Punjab Prant as a Pracharak. He was also Zila Pracharak in Karnal. Then he was sent to Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh in 1966, where he held various responsibilities for 45 years. He played a key role in strengthening the work of Vanvasi Gramin Mazdoor Mahasangh. He toured entire country many times. He held the responsibility of organising secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh for many years. He also visited various countries of the world to present the case of the Indian labourers. His simplicity and sharp intellect impressed everyone who came in his contact.

In the year 2009, Aggiji was sent to Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram and held the responsibility of Akhil Bharatiya Sah Hit Raksha Pramukh. He visited a number of Vanvasi villages for this objective. He motivated the workers to take up various activities for the protection of tribal rights. On November 6, he was at Mohipura Village under Badwani District of Madhya Pradesh, where he attended the Kanyapujan function at the Ashram of Swami Amritanandji, the Gurubandhu of second RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Guruji on November 7. He met the villagers and also visited several families. In the evening, he joined Lakshmipujan at the residence of a senior worker Shri Madhu. After dinner, he suddenly developed pain in the chest. He was taken to the doctor immediately but breathed his last even before reaching the doctor.

In his tribute, RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat described Aggiji as a karyakarta full of organisational skills, fearlessness, simplicity, hard working and humbleness. He said his life as a Sangh Pracharak was inspiring. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan described the life of Aggiji as the confluence of knowledge, action and patriotism. BMS national general secretary Shri Virjesh Upadhya described Aggi ji as “a model organising secretary”. “His simplicity impressed everyone and he was the leader who knew every worker by name.” he added.

Prior to the cremation in Bhopal, he was paid rich tribute by the workers on November 8. Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram organising secretary Shri Atul Jog, Hit Raksha Pramukh of Kalyan Ashram Shri Girish Kuber, national general secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Shri Virjesh Upadhyaya, general secretary (organisation) of Bharatiya Janata Party Shri Ramlal and many other senior workers paid tribute in Bhopal. His family members from Delhi also joined the cremation.
