Mamata Didi, for Bengalis, emerged as a ray of hope in the dark hours of CPI (M)’s jungle raj. However, Mamata only nurtured some more carnivores in the political culture and made the eco-system darker. Hindus, especially Dalits, are being tormented, Jihadis are being groomed, Illegal immigrants are being welcomed to damage the Bengali demography and institutionalised corruption is deepening. Welcome to Mamata’s Jungle Raj
“Bengal ki Hawa me ek alag tarah ka khauf hai” (There is a sense of fear in the atmosphere of Bengal), feels Shailendra Jha, a businessman. Jha has just returned from Kolkata. His business meetings compelled him to stay in Bengal for a week and also gave him an opportunity to know in and out of the troubled State.

Mamata Banerjee

Jha, who is a Congress-enthusiast and never fails to take a dig on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), didn’t hesitate to admit that, “It is only BJP that can save Bengal”. He added, “Bangladeshi Muslims are encroaching the State like anything, and Mamata’s minority appeasement and favour to Bangladeshis for mere votes is a matter of grave concern.”

Does the land of Rabindranath Tagore, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Chittaranjan Das and several other Bengali stalwarts deserve this nasty destruction?
West Bengal, once known as the ‘land of freedom fighters’ and ‘habitat of intellectuals’ is now famous for some other reasons. Violence, arson, loot, corruption and killings have continued and the dark hours of the CPI (M) rule didn’t change. I still remember the date May 20, 2011, when Mamata Didi armed with the mantra of “Maa, Mati, Manush” (mother, country and individuals) and the guarantee of “poriborton” (change) came to the throne in style, but the current scenario of the State has a different story to narrate now.

Atrocities on Dalit Hindus
Bengal has been bearing the brunt of violence soon after Mamata came to power. In the last three years atrocities on Dalits by Jihadi fundamentalists have seen a significant rise. In all the cases the victims are poor Scheduled Caste Hindus. The killing of two Dalit students Rajesh Sarkar and Tapas Burman by the police in Islampur is the recent example of atrocities on poor and deprived in the Mamata’s State. Both the boys received bullets just for a little demand to replace Urdu and reinstate Bangla medium teachers.

Buddhadev Bhattacharya

In the year 2015, the three people that had been killed by Islamic fundamentalists Maru Hazra (48), Asomay Hazra (18), and Shantota Hazra (40) in Juranpur, of Kaligang also belonged to the Scheduled Caste community. The life of the three was snatched in daylight. No assistance has so far been provided to their families as per Prevention of Atrocities (Scheduled caste and Scheduled tribe) Act. 1989.

In 2016, Rohit Tanti (24), a Dalit Hindu boy belonging to Khatik community, had been killed by the Jihadis in Kharagpur, West Midnapur. Rohit was beaten mercilessly with iron rods and bamboo sticks. Not only are the poor Dalits, even police are afraid of Jihadi goons in Bengal. On January 4, 2016, a big group of fundamentalists set the Police Station of Kaliachak, Malda on fire. They looted the weapons and destroyed the criminal records.
Time and again it has been alleged that TMC leaders have a close connection with the Jihadis. One of the examples is Minister of State with Independent Charge of Education, Library and Parliamentary Affairs Siddiqullah Chowdhury
In the same year, Mou Rajak (17) a Dalit Hindu girl was attacked with the Acid bulb on October 10. She refused to accept the illegal proposal of Iman (48), a known fundamentalist element of Ganzapara village of Nadia. The minor girl died on October 19, 2016, in NRS Hospitals, Kolkata. The same day Indrajit Dutta, 26 was beaten to death in Mallarpur of Birbhum District. Indrajit was brutally killed because he had refused to give a subscription for Muharram procession.

Bonhomie with Jihadis
Time and again it has been alleged that TMC leaders have a close connection with the Jihadis. One of the examples is Minister of State with Independent Charge of Education, Library and Parliamentary Affairs Siddiqullah Chowdhury. He is also State general secretary of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. It is the same organisation that had supported a decree against the National Song Vande Mataram.

Another TMC MP in Rajya Sabha Ahmed Hassan Imran, also co-founder of banned Islamic students’ organisation SIMI, was actively involved in organising riot in Naliakhali on February 21, 2013. He also had alleged links with top leaders of Bangladesh-based terror groups and attended and helped organising seminars where jihadi leaders made anti-India speeches. He used to edit a daily, “Kalam”. Later, Imran sold off the magazine at a considerable premium to Saradha group chief Sudipta Sen.

A dossier prepared by intelligence agencies in 2015—accessed by Hindustan Times—on the Rajya Sabha MP said Imran was in touch with leaders of a Bangladesh-based terror group, Jamaat-e-Islami–previously known as Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh (JMB).

In the dossier, it was alleged that Imran had links with Soukat Ali, a close associate of Siddikur Rahaman alias Bangla Bhai—a Taliban veteran of the Afghan war who reportedly masterminded the 2005 serial blasts in Bangladesh.

According to the dossier, Imran used to go to Bangladesh regularly after 1977 when his sister got married in that country. “There, Imran met several JMB leaders like Golam Azam, Motiur Rahaman and Dilwar Hossain,” it said.
While Imran on many occasions denied having been present at any seminar with JMB leaders. Another TMC MP in the list is Idris Ali. He is MP from Bashirhat Parliamentary Constituency and accused of the Park Circus riots in 2007. Firad (Bobby) Hakim who is Minister for Municipal Affairs in the Mamata Government is a step ahead of all. In the pursuit to appease the Muslim voters of his constituency, he described his constituency area as “Mini Pakistan”.
