New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi applauded the contribution of ASHA Workers in substantially curbing child mortality rate in the country. He was interacting with the ASHA workers who reached Delhi from all the States under the banner of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh on September 21. Referring to the remarks of by WHO about the dramatic breakthrough in reducing infant mortality rate in India, Shri Modi congratulated the ASHA Workers for their contribution in nation building. He described the hostile and most difficult situations and timing in which the ASHA Workers have to perform their duties. They have to leave their families at midnight to attend pregnant women and sick children. Anganwadi workers from all the States met the Prime Minister separately. Union Minister Smt Maneka Gandhi was also present on the occasion.

Anganwadi and ASHA workers called on the Prime Minister for thanking him for the substantial increase in their honorarium, incentive and insurance cover. The PM congratulated the BMS also for the persistent efforts in persuading the Government for an increase to the scheme workers. BMS president Shri CK Sajinarayanan, general secretary Shri Virjesh Upadhyay, north zone organising secretary Shri Pawan Kumar and Asha and Anganwadi leaders were also present.
 
The PM further said only the Anganwadi workers could achieve total nutrition for the deprived children in the country. He asked them to continue it for years together. He described Anganwadi workers as the real trainers of future generation which no Government can achieve without their help. Anganwadi Workers have a prominent role in building the future of India. He also described Anganwadi workers as ‘Yashodas of Gokul’ who looked after naughty Sri Krishna. “Yashoda had one Kanhaiya, whereas you have many”, he told the Anganwadi Workers.
