-Ameya Salpekar-

Marching with a Billion essentially extols the virtues of the Modi government and its accomplishments. The backdrop of this analysis is the present political climate, at the midterm of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. This succinct investigation about the work dynamics of the Modi government also takes into account the Prime Minister’s successful history as nothing less than that of his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
This assay, does much more than lending a perspective to the Modi vision. The book gives sound factual arguments in favour of the present government. That itself underlines the reasons of the profound failure of both the UPA governments. The previous freebie approach taken by the Congress, was a practice more akin to vote bank politics in stark contrast with Modi’s approach of creating an enabling atmosphere for development.
Uday Mahurkar’s review of the Modi government till midterm describes in detail what Modi stands for. Viewed collectively,  Modi’s vision, and his attempts towards its actualisation and accomplishment might have influenced the author, like any other independent political observer.
The book also describes what the government has managed to achieve, overcoming definite odds,  withstanding and improvising. These accomplishments, when viewed in light of years of political and policy paralysis may be perceived as miraculous successes. As the author presents scores of facts and statistics, the working ethics, style and attitude of the Modi Government, the readers can’t help but admire the administration and their leader’s core beliefs.
Amidst Modi’s ongoing onslaught on poverty and corruption, his vow to eliminate the very concept of middlemen to make the system completely transparent and his endeavour to bring in digital innovation of kind that reaches everyone, the book enlightens on what Modi really has been doing, and what he proposes to do in future. The author also hasn’t tried to evade the shortcomings of the government. The treatise gives adequate description of the opposition views.
Any analysis of the Modi government would be incomplete without a requisite mention of the impact of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Make in India campaign, Startup India, Digital India, the GST, The Skill development Mission, the FDI surge in India and the 24×7 working of the Modi government. Modi’s masterstroke, the demonetisation also gets its due reference.
While duly assessing the Modi government, one can’t but help wonder if this metamorphosis, this transformation being brought about by Modi at the very grassroots of the nation, this attitude, which may be considered centuries old, which is actively being inculcated in everyone who answers Modi’s call, from voluntarily giving up gas subsidies to paying more for fuel, from Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan to Swacchta hi Seva, from GST to Demonetisation, is the bare beginning of a revolution.
The Adhar and the DBT system, have already laid the foundation for the development of the nation, development which shall be accessible to every last citizen. It is important to remember that it is only midterm for Modi, and much remains to be addressed, so if one were to make up his mind about Modi, such a decision should also be subject to change.
So will Modi, the bringer of the tides of change, the builder of enabling institutions for the whole of India, a great leader of Hindutva, the greatest contemporary champion for the cause of a nationalist India, succeed the same way. The answers to these questions may be found within us, for we may have an important role to play. Do read to know what is about NaMo and what is not.    n
