‘If you get up early, your day would be of 36 hours’ used to be the message of  Mahavirji, senior RSS Pracharak, who left for the heavenly abode on October 24 Mahavirji, who was ‘Veerji’ for members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) family passed away on October 24, 2017 at PGI, Chandigarh after a cardiac arrest. Thousands of Swayamsevaks thronged at the Chandigarh office of the RSS to pay the last tribute to the revered personality. RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi, Sahsarkaryavah Shri Suresh  Soni and Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh  Shri Manmohan Vaidya paid last tribute to the departed soul along with thousands of Swayamsevaks and well-wishers.   
The last rites were performed on October 25, 2017 at his paternal place Mansa in Punjab. Senior RSS Pracharak Shri Rameshwar Das and Prant Pracharak accompanied the mortal remains of Mahavirji to Mansa. On the way, swayamsevaks paid floral tributes to their friend, philosopher and guide.
His brothers Advocate Suraj Chhabra and Subhash Chhabra could not stop crying after receiving the mortal remains of their brother who dedicated entire life to the nation.  
Shri Mahavirji was born to Shri Diwan Nanda and Smt Krishna Devi on 22-11-1951 in Budhlada of Mansa District of Punjab. He completed his primary education till completion of Senior Secondary from Mansa and BSc. Degree from DM College, Moga. He also secured his MA (Statistics) from Punjab University.
He joined RSS as a Vistarak in 1972. Later he served as Zila Pracharak in Mandi, Shimla Vibhag Pracharak of Kangada, and Sah Pranth Pracharak of Himagiri Prant which comprises of Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. After having served as Prant Pracharak of Punjab, he held the responsibility of the Akhil Bharatiya Sah Bauddhik Pramukh. He was also a Akhila Bharatiya Karyakarini Sadasya.
Hard work and high values were cardinal principles of his life. He was very particular about time management
and demonstrated that a disciplined routine can achieve unbelievable targets. ‘If you get up early, your day would be of 36 hours’ used to be the message to all the Swayamsevaks. He took the RSS work to the interiors of Himachal and gave new dimensions to it in Punjab and Jammu-Kashmir.
RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat sent a condolence message which was read out before the funeral in which he described Mahavirji as a thinker with calm and pleasant personality. He adapted himself to the every responsibility entrusted by the organisation.
Nephews of Mahavirji, Sameer, Saurabh and Kunar performed the last rites. Many office bearers of the RSS and people from different walks of life from Punjab and Himachal were present to pay their respect to departed soul.     n
