-Devidas Deshpande-

Pune: “Cow protection is not the matter of faith alone. It is directly related to the economy, as cow is the basis of economic development, agriculture and farmers in the country,” said RSS Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi while speaking at the concluding ceremony of first and second year the Sangh Shiksha Varg on June 3.

The city hosted two Sangh Shiksha Vargs of 21 days. First being the first year Varg comprising of the swayamsevaks from Western Maharashtra and another of second year in which swayamsevaks from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa took part. The combined conclusion ceremony of the Vargs was held at the SP College Ground. Shri Bhanu Kale, editor of Marathi magazine Antarnaad was the chief guest. The function featured the spectacular demonstrations by 700 young swayamsevaks including Yogasana, Suryanmaskar and war manoeuvres. Local MPs, MLAs, retired army officers and citizens were also present.

“It is unfortunate that politics is being played on cow slaughter. To say that cow protection is opposed by a particular sect or religion is to mislead from the real issue at hand. Creating conflict in the society in this way is a social sin in my eyes. Since ancient time, cow has been the medium of agriculture and economic growth for the agrarian community in the country,” Bhaiyaji said.

He further said creating a society free from all inequalities is the need of the Hindu society. Fault lines existed in Hindu society. That is why many great individuals like Maharshi Dayanand, Mahatma Phule, Dr Ambedkar, Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Lokmanya Tilak tried to remove those vices. Therefore, the RSS has adopted the Hindu society as its sphere of action. History shows that whenever Bharat has seen glorious days, it was when Hindus had arisen. When the country saw degradation, it was when Hindus were dormant. The RSS believes that the cause of the rise and fall of the nation is Hindu society. He said the philosophy of Hinduism was not for any particular land or creed, but for the whole humanity. “People say that we should develop and become like America or Japan, but the well-being of all lies in India remaining India,” he said.

Shri Joshi stressed that the RSS strength was growing and it in turn means that strength of Hindutva is increasing. People are openly coming in support of the RSS. The RSS works on the basis of the workers and not on the basis of propaganda. It works to prepare useful people for the country.

He said instead of depending upon the Governments the social problems can best be resolved by social institutions. Institutions are needed to solve problems, but it is unfortunate that we lack institutions that indulge in such positive thinking. Whatever issues are, they can be sorted out through dialogue and cooperation, rather than conflict, Bhaiyaji said.

Shri Bhanu Kale said that he do not believe in untouchability towards any institution or ideology. “I am attending RSS programme for the first time and I am impressed by the display of discipline here. It is amazing for me that youngsters stay away from mobile for 21 days during the period of this camp. I congratulate the RSS, because in today”s era this is nothing less than an achievement.”

He stressed on the need for one national language. “A unifying language is must for nation building. Today when people from different provinces come together, we have to take help of English. However, we have to promote Hindi,” he said. He also came down on those who see idea of nation with an inferiority complex. “Some people believe that the concept of the nation is obsolete. However, I do not believe this. There is no alternative to the concept of nation. Every service needs dedication and a foundation is needed for dedication. No other bigger foundation exists in the world than the nation. The nation is our identity and we will be lost in the ocean of humanity if we have no identity. It is necessary to preserve the concept of the nation for an identity,” he added.             n
