PM Narendra Modi calls BJP to reach out to poor and marginalised Muslims and OBCs
R Guruprasad in Bhubaneswar
BJP’s national executive meet concluded in Bhubaneswar earlier this week was important on multiple counts. Firstly, this was the major meet of the party after a resounding victory in four states, including Uttar Pradesh. Secondly, this also gave room to the party to plan its future strategies for elections in a number of states and think how the Uttar Pradesh victory could be emulated across the country in making Modi’s dream of Congress Mukt Bharat a reality. Finally, BJP, which had emerged as a contender in Odisha by winning the local body polls wants to emerge as a strong contender in Odisha where BJD has been in power for the last few decades. As Odisha is going to polls in 2019, BJP’s mission is to win Odias’ hearts as well as the state.
Union Ministers visit KISSGenerally, it is a practice for those attending the national executive meet to visit the places of importance in that State. So, if you are thinking about those special places in Odisha, then one such important place is Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). This institute provides free residential education for 25,000 tribal kids and is the largest in the world. It also has got credit of bringing lot of kids to mainstream education who otherwise would have joined naxalism. KISS is also credited to have provided the one of the maximum number of sportspersons to the country. Hence, five Union Ministers and scores of top BJP leaders visited KISS to get a firsthand experience of its scale and scope. |
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the national executive saying that victory should make one sober and everyone should work for the development of the country. During the meet, Modi also addressed the issue of triple talaq saying justice can be delivered to Muslim women only through awareness and awakening. Modi also came up with a brilliant phrase-P2G2 (pro-people, good governance) wherein he set the goal for socio-economic empowerment of India by 2022 asking every BJP worker to substantially transform lives of socially and educationally backward classes. He also presented an administrative template—Van Dhan (forest-based
economy, Jan Dhan (financial empowerment), and Jal Dhan (water conservation for irrigation) for making India ethically, economically and ecologically a powerful country by 2022 on the world stage. He also informed that when his government came to power, the revenue receipt was Rs 13 lakh crore, which had by then gone up to Rs 19 lakh crore and he was hopeful of reaching the target of Rs 26 lakh crore in the next two years.
Modi also asked his fellow BJP men to reach out to poor Muslims and the marginalised sections. He said, among the Muslim communities, there were many backward classes which were marginalised. BJP should take fruits of development to them. He also criticised the opposition parties for raking up the issue of EVM tampering.
Focus on OBCs
Paying rich tributes to the Odias, BJP had dedicated their national executive venue in honour of Odia saint and poet Bhoma Bhoi. The BJP national executive meeting welcomed the Prime Minister Modi government’s initiative for giving Cabinet nod to the legislative proposal to accord Constitutional status to the OBC Commission on the lines of SCs/STs. During the national executive, Lok Sabha MP Hukum Dev Narayan Yadav moved the resolution on the new OBC Commission and it was seconded by Chief Ministers of Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh Raghubar Das and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Later, speaking to media, Union HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar said that the Modi government was going ahead with the constitutional status to honour the demands of all the OBC MPs belonging to several political parties. He alleged that the opposition parties were trying to stall the bill as they were anti OBC. He said, while the Lok Sabha had passed the bill where the BJP was in majority, the opposition parties were playing dirty politics by trying to delay its
passage in the Rajya Sabha. The passage of the bill would allow OBCs in the state lists to get into the Central list. Meanwhile, the national executive also passed a political resolution hailing the pro-poor agenda of the Modi Government.
Shah to lead fight against Left
With continued attacks against the BJP workers in the Left ruled states of Kerala and Tripura, BJP chief Amit Shah during the national executive meet, declared that he would lead the battle against the Left and as part of his plan he would be touring Kerala to meet the grassroots workers which was sure to lift the morale of the BJP workers who are being repeatedly targeted by the Pinnarayi Vijayan’s Government. In Kerala, all the BJP Union Ministers will be connecting with party workers at the booth level. The BJP will also make sure that Antyodaya of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya wins over Marxism. Shah also announced that he would hold a road show in Agartala, the capital of Tripura on May 24. He also declared that one Union Minister will visit Tripura every fortnight.
Modi steals the show
The coastal state of Odisha wore a saffron look as thousands of people descended on the streets of Bhubaneswar to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As he was on his way to the streets of capital of Odisha, PM waved at the people who had gathered in huge
numbers to welcome him. Sometimes, PM was so overwhelmed at the response of the people that he decided to get off the vehicle and waved and even walked with the people, greeted them and shook hands. When Modi visited historic Lingaraj Temple, he became the second Prime Minister to do so. He also felicitated kins of 16 freedom fighters who had fought against the British rule in the coastal State. After the meeting, the humble PM said that he was privileged to meet the freedom fighters’ families and seek their blessings. Earlier, BJP chief Amit Shah had said that he had sought blessings of Lord Jagannath to steer the party to victory in Odisha in 2019. State BJP chief Basanta Panda said that the PM’s road show was a new era of politics and would help BJP to come to power soon. After a successful meet in Odisha, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu expressed his confidence that BJP would come to power in Odisha in 2019.
