This refers to the editorial titled ‘Delivering the Mandate’ and an article ‘Clean Sweep and not a Whitewash’ by Bhagwati Prakash Sharma in Organiser, discussing various aspects of demonetising Rs 500/- and 1,000/- currency notes. Certainly it is a positive step, not only to paralyse criminal activities of various types, but would tone up national economy also. All those Opposition parties which are raising hue and cry have many things in common. They are involved in black money and corruption, appeasement of Muslims, mild toward jihadis and terrorists, and hatred for Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, so much so that now they have started abusing him. Supreme Court and some High Courts are entertaining PIL against demonetising, filed by the agents of the Congress and its associates. In my opinion since Judiciary is not supposed to run the Government it should not become a tool in the hands of corrupt political parties, which are afraid of facing
discussions inside the Parliament.

Mamata in a Confrontationist Course (Game Behind ‘ Sickular ’ Polity, January 29); This refers to the article titled ‘Game Behind ‘Sickular’ Polity by Swati Deb in Organiser. The recent incidents of violence in West Bengal are fast turning the State into a disturbed place. Worryingly, somewhere or the other, the cadres of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) are either directly or indirectly involved in many of these conflicts. When Mamata Banerjee was not in power, then TMC leader and now Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had raised alarm bells across the State about the lawlessness brought by the Left, but today when she is in power she has failed to give respite to the people from the same. The last but not the least, being the killing of a proctor in the South 24 Parganas, where the villagers are protesting and staging dharnas against the acquisition of nearly 16 acres of farmland by the State for the construction of a power plant by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. The villagers say it is a forced occupation. With incidents such as the one that took place in Dhulagarh last month the State is turning into a communal cauldron as well More than that the State has witnessed large number of incidents of political violence in the recent past. Besides she has been picking fights with the Centre, particularly with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. She is in a confrontationist course, both with the Centre and other political parties within the State. Banerjee has been accused of polarising the State along communal lines. Perhaps she think that with the kind of majority her party enjoys and the support base she has constructed over the years, will see her through any problem. This is sad. She must make a course — correction as early as possible. Else the people of the State will teach her and her party a lesson or two. |
Congress with Crutches
It is a pity that the Congress has come to such low ebb that it has to repeatedly become subservient to regional parties for its survival. First it played a third fiddle to the Rashtriya Janata Dal — Janata Dal (United) combine in Bihar and now in Uttar Pradesh, it has tagged itself to the Samajwadi Party. Who is to blamed for such a decline of an erstwhile national party? Perhaps the Congress leaders were over-confident of being irremovable from power and hence they allowed massive corruption under their regime. Secondly they continued to rely on hackneyed slogans of secularism which did not work. It’s high time that the party reviews its approach and shed its dynastic credentials. As far as BJP is concerned it has to be proud of itself that it has gained such an ascendency that a situation has been created where all the wrestlers combined together are fighting to the single one.

A Statesman
Outgoing US President Barack Obama gave a motivating farewell speech. We heard the voice of humanity when he said, “If we are unwilling to invest in the children of the immigrants, just because they don’t look like us, we will diminish the prospects of our own children — because these Brown kids will represent a larger and larger share of America’s workforce.” Indeed, Obama has had his name embroidered as one of the runners in the relay of evolution. He ran with the baton of humanity which had been passed over to him by the likes of Abraham Lincoln. We heard such a voice when Abraham Lincoln said, “Whenever I hear one arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.”

Champak Lal of Delhi
In my younger days I had seen a drama in which a character Champak Lal was shown, who had managed to become a mantri of a king of Magadha. He was a failure and could not perform his duties, but all the time he was cursing and blaming some body or the other for his failure. The king had to dismiss him ultimately and appoint somebody else and then the work of the kingdom went on smoothly. The Delhi Government of Arvind Kejriwal is working in exactly a similar way. From the day one of his tenure he is cursing and blaming others like the PM, the Lt Governor, the High Court etc, etc. for his non performance and failures. In the same working
conditions some of his predecessors had done very good work. He has not been able to do any good work nor has been able to stop bad work. The Delhi people would have to tolerate him till the end of his tenure but the people of Punjab and Goa should ensure that such Champak Lals are not allowed to enter their State. Since both these states are progressive people like Arvind Kejriwal can cause irreparable damage to these states by his incompetence and arrogance.

Hollow Charges can’t obstruct Constructive Work
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi time and again targets Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He says achche din will come only when the Congress Party returns to power. The Congress was in power for most of the past 70 years, but the people suffered. There was neither development nor employment. The rich continued to be richer while the poor got included in the below the poverty line definition. Corruption was the order of the day and therefore people went for a change and they voted for the BJP in 2014. Now the Congress is finding fault with every move of the Modi Government. The ruling dispensation at the Centre is opposed for no reason, for all its acts. Even sections of the media are holding trials on every issue, right from supposed intolerance to demonetisation. The Congress cannot come to power in 2019 if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his team continue with their good work.

Urgent need of a solution
(Holding By Horn, January 22); Jallikattu may be considered cruel by animal rights activists and other like-minded people, but its cultural links to the State cannot be ignored. A solution has to be take care of keeping in mind both the angles and not be arbitrary.

(Protests for Tradition, January 29); Apropos to the article titled ‘Protests for Tradition’ by Venkatasan in Organiser. The Supreme Court has taken a decision to ban the sport, Jallikattu, in Tamil Nadu. But the DMK working President and Opposition leader in the State, M K Stalin has trained his guns on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the issue. Stalin wants a Central Ordinance to hold the sport and calls for the AIADMK to press the Centre for it. But what can the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi do when the apex court has banned the practice of bull-fight? Does the DMK wants the Prime Minister to go against the orders of the Supreme Court and face contempt of court charges?

Provide better amenities to jawans
There is an old proverb which says that there is no smoke without fire. Smoke has engulfed the entire bureaucratic
set-up of the Border Security Force (BSF) as is consequent by the video shot by a jawan that went viral on social media. It is heartening that the Modi Government has ordered a probe to scrutinise the allegation levelled by
the jawan about the sub-standard food being served to our soldiers. It is imperative that better amenities be provided to our jawans of the Armed forces. It is because of these personnel, who guard our borders against the evil intentions of neighbouring inimical countries, that we are able to have a sound and safe sleep.
