Violent clashes in University of Hyderabad

Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad witnessed violent clashes again when the students belonging to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) objected to a programme held to denounce the police and paramilitary personnel action against rioters in Jammu & Kashmir. The clashes occurred outside a hostel in the campus. The programme was organised by the Left leaning student union at the Shopping Complex to “condemn the police action against the rioters and the violations of Human Rights in the Valley”.
Accusations and counter accusations by rival unions were hurled against each other. Amol Singh, an M Phil (political science) student, said he was beaten up by the members of ABVP. While ABVP members alleged that Amol, and non-boarders beat up G Kailasam, an MA student, which left him with a fracture in his left leg. Both groups lodged complaints with the police. A bike rally organised by  the ABVP was allegedly attacked and slogans were raised demanding ‘Azaadi’ to Kashmir. The situation was similar to JNU in the past and unparliamentary words were uttered denouncing Bharat Mata and the Indian Army. Police intervened and assured the ABVP of early action against non-boarders who were believed to have been sheltered by the SFI. Some students revealed that few Kashmiri students were spoiling the atmosphere of the campus with their separatist agenda. As a precaution, police and paramilitary forces kept vigil at the gates of the University.
According to the Pro Vice Chancellor Vipin Srivastava of Hyderabad University a group of around 15 students and two faculty members gathered at the Shopping Complex and conducted a meeting on Kashmir issue, even though the University Security Officer denied them permission and continued with speeches. Later, another section of students, objected to the meeting and a scuffle broke out resulting in minor injuries.
N Susheel Kumar, a PhD student in the University, alleged that slogans were raised against the Indian Army at the meeting. Protesting against the sloganeering, the ABVP members took out a rally after the meeting ended.
