Colombo: A National Hindu Buddhist conference was organised by the All Ceylon Hindu Buddhist Council on May 14 in Colombo. The conference had the blessings from most venerable Kirama Vimala Jothi Thero, Chairman of the Buddhist Cultural Centre and Swami Sarvaroopanandha Maharaj, president of Ramakrishna Mission, Colombo. Shri D Easwaran, who built the biggest Buddha stone statue in Sri Lanka presided over the conference. Minister for Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Hindu Cultural Affairs and Prison Reform Shri M Swaminathan emphasised the need of Hindu Buddhist unity in Sri Lanka. President of All Ceylon Buddhist Congress Shri Praneeth Abeysundhara glorified the Hindu traditions and Bhagwad Gita. He said Sri Lankan Hindus and Buddhists should unite as traditional religions are common in between them. History researcher Shri KS Thiruchelvam explained how Buddhist kings were shown as enemies to Hindus by historians and how they provoked the ordinary people through such writings. President of Hindu federation Shri N Arunkant presented the facts on how several goals were achieved through the Hindu Buddhist unity. A total of 300 delegates from 53 Hindu and Buddhist organisations participated in the conference.
Training is part of our regular activities: VHP
New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) reacted sharply over the attempts by vested interests creating a controversy during the closing ceremony of Bajrang Dal training camp on May 26 in Ayodhya. “This is not the first time that a training camp of this kind has been organised. For the last 25 years, training camps based on the same principles/curriculum have been a regular feature of Bajrang Dal activities. This is purely an organisational event,” said VHP joint secretary Dr Surendra Jain in a statement issued in New Delhi on May 26.
He said anyone who is trying to portray the training camp as some sort of a conspiracy hatched by the Central government or even remotely associates this with the State elections that are due in Uttar Pradesh next year is completely ignorant of the history of the Bajrang Dal or is simply creating sensationalism.
No questions had ever been asked in the last 25 years on these training camps of the Bajrang Dal. The kind of training provided at these camps is perfectly within the ambit of the law. Thousands of Akhadas all over the country impart the same kind of training and all this is done publicly and nothing is ever under wraps. Bajrang Dal is an organisation that acts only in the interests of the nation. In 32 years of its existence, it has so many records to its credit like the largest blood donation camp in one single day, Dr Jain added. n

Bengaluru: Karnataka unit of Laghu Udyog Bharati, in association with International Institute of Waste Management, organised a workshop on ‘Opportunities in Waste Management for Women Entrepreneurs’ on May 18. Smt Andrea Christ, Deputy Consul General of Federal Republic of Germany, inaugurated the function. President, Laghu Udyog Bharati, Karnataka Shri KS Sharma welcomed the gathering. Smt Hema Chinchewadi provided an insight into the newly formed Women Entrepreneur Cell of LUB-K and spoke about the State Level Conference and B2B meet held from March 18 to 19. Strengthening Cooperatives is the need of the hour: Satish Marathe
Chittorgarh: Veteran cooperative thinker and national convener of Sahakar Bharati Shri Satish Marathe said strengthening the cooperative sector is the need of the hour for balanced economic development of the country. Inaugurating Chittorgarh Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd in Chittorgarh on May 14 he said after the failure of Capitalism and Marketism the Cooperative Sector has emerged as an alternative model for economic development. He pointed out that many power and water distribution projects are successfully being run through cooperatives in the world. He said the cooperative banks are very helpful to the urban people and such banks should be granted licences on a large scale. He said the nationalised banks are today afflicted with the problem of huge Non Performing Assets (NPA) whereas the cooperative banks NPA is comparatively less. Local MP Shri CP Joshi said the technological support has strengthened the cooperative sector. Local MLA Shri Chandrabhan Singh Akya also spoke on the occasion. n
Ensure cheaper medicines to all: SJM
Bhopal : National Council Meeting of Swadeshi Jagran Manch, organised from May 21 to 22 in Bhopal, stressed the need of access to cheaper medicines and medical facilities to all. In a resolution adopted at the meeting, the Manch said as the diseases are increasing due to change in lifestyle and India sharing 21 per cent of global disease burden, the people do not have access to health facilities or medicines at affordable prices. The resolution said the medicines are getting costlier due to changes in the 2005 Patent Act, which needs to be amended again according to the changing needs. The SJM said the generic medicines should be promoted. The Manch also said that apart from increasing health budget health facilities should be expanded to the remote areas.
In another resolution the Manch urged the general public to cooperate fully with the public and private initiatives for water conservation, rain water harvesting, prevention of water wastage and water misuse, forest conservation, tree planting and such other measures, which are urgently required for our very survival. Forest conservation and water conservation should be treated by one and all as developmental activities. In another resolution the Manch demanded the Government of India to withdraw its decision allowing 100 per cent FDI in e-commerce, food processing and marketing to protect the interest of the small traders, industries and the farmers. n
Bharat Parikrama Yatra enters Chhattisgarh
Raigarh: The Bharat Parikrama Yatra being conducted by veteran RSS Pracharak Shri Sitaram Kedilaya entered Chhattisgarh on May 25. Chhattisgarh is the 21st State to which the Yatra has entered. It entered from Baragada District of Odisha to Raigarh District. The 5-year mega walkathon expected to conclude at Kanyakumari on Guru Poornima Day of July 9, 2017. 68 year old Shri Kedilaya has now completed approximately over 19,000 kilometers by his mega walkathon. The Yatra has visited over 1,750 villages of 21 states so far, creating awareness about conservation of water, ecology and rural Indian values in daily life. n
RSS tribute to Kolya Ramananda Swami
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) expressed deep condolences on the demise of Pujya Sri Ramananda Swamiji of Kolya Matha near Mangaluru. He was 66 and was unwell for some time. He took deeksha from Shiva Balayogi Swamiji. He was closely associated with the RSS and VHP in Mangaluru Vibhag for the last 40 years. He actively participated in several mega events like the Hindu Samajotsava, several socio-religious agitations, religious awareness programmes, activities to stop conversions and imbue the spirit of social harmony.
