RSS swayamsevaks celebrated 67th Republic Day across the country on January 26 by saluting the national flag. Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat hoisted the flag at RSS headquarters in Nagpur, while Sarkaryavah Shri Bhaiyaji Joshi hoisted the flag at MIT Medical College premises in Latur, Maharashtra.
Addressing the gathering Shri Joshi appealed to the countrymen to work for making the country self-reliant. “We should not merely be a mute spectator to development process. Instead of depending upon the government for development, the common man should be activated for it,” he said.
Sahsarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale hoisted the flag at KGT International School in Mumbai. “Let us resolve to defend our national values, constitutional commitments, and democratic spirit and rededicate ourselves for the all round development of the nation,” he said in his speech. Senior Sangh functionary Shri Indresh Kumar hoisted the flag at a madrasa at Raipur Rani in Panchkula, Haryana.
The workers from different RSS associated organisations like VHP, Kisan Sangh, Mazdoor Sangh, etc, celebrated the Republic Day along with Bharat Mata Pujan across Karnataka. In Chennai, Shri Vanniyarajan, Kshetra Sanghachalak hoisted the flag at Sakthi Karyalaya. Kshetra Pracharak Shri Sthanumaalayan, Kshetra Karyavah Shri Rajendran, veteran leader Shri K Suryanarayan Rao, Shri Sethu Madhavan and other eminent leaders were also present. n

implementation of reservation quota
“Reservation is necessary but equally important is its honest implementation,” said RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat while interacting with the students at 6th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad organised at MIT Pune on January 29. Noted scientist Dr Vijay Bhatkar, MIT founder Vishwanath Karad and director Rahul Karad were also present on the dais. Shri Bhagwat favoured continuance of quota policy so long as there is social discrimination in the country, but stressed on its honest implementation. In response to a question on politics based on religion, he said, “This is not a question for me. This should be asked to those who indulge in it. We should practise what we preach and embrace the good”.
He said the RSS has no disagreement with what the country's Constitution outlines. “Culture is the soul of our Constitution and it also provides for effecting the necessary changes to suit changing times.” He said the Constitution of Pakistan is based on one religion and community and has no scope for tolerance and acceptance of diversity. On the contrary the Bharatiya Constitution was accepted by all and was formed on the basis of consensus. Bharat always accepted and honoured diversity because seeing unity in diversity is our value, he added. —Virag Pachpore
Proud to be part of Kalyan Ashram —TR Zeliang, Nagaland CM
Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang expressed happiness to be a part of the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram. “I cannot express my pleasure at this moment, as some feelings can just be felt and not expressed in words. Rani Maa played a leading role during the freedom struggle. I express my sincere thanks to the Government of India and the Kalyan Ashram, which observed the birth centenary of the great freedom fighter all over the country,” he said while addressing the birth centenary celebration of Rani Gaidinliu in New Delhi on January 24. Kalyan Ashram president Shri Jagdevram Oraon was also present on the occasion.
Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani declared to publish books in various Bharateeya languages compiling the heroic stories of Rani Maa. The books will possibly be published by National Book Trust to apprise the younger generation of the life and work of the great freedom fighter. n
TN Sewa Bharati felicitates Sanitary Workers
Tamil Nadu unit of Sewa Bharati organised a series of events across Chennai to felicitate sanitary workers who cleaned up the mess left over by the deadliest Chennai floods. On January 21, a function was organised at Manali. Vibhagh Pracharak Shri MD Sankar felicitated the workers. Shri Boopalakrishnan of Vallalar Peravai presided over the function. Tribute to a brave mother
Smt Sumitra Kothari, the brave mother of Ram Kothari and Sharad Kothari, who sacrificed their lives for Sri Ramjanmabhoomi in Ayodhya on November 2, 1990, passed away in Kolkata on January 26. She was 64. She is survived by a daughter Poornima. Her husband had passed away in 2002. RSS Sahsarkaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale expressed deep condolence on her demise. In his tribute VHP general secretary Shri Champat Rai said, “She was indeed a ‘Veer Mata’ who sacrificed her two young sons for the birth place of Sri Ram. After that sacrifice she along with her husband visited Ayodhya every year. Her daughter Poornima, who lives in Kolkata, is an active social activist. When I think about this brave mother, I remember the brave women of the country who motivated their husbands or sons to sacrifice lives for the motherland. Pujya Sumitra Devi was also an equally brave mother. My humble tribute.” n
