Three-day Karyakarta Sammelan of Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (ABVKA) concluded on a most positive note in Nagpur on October 4 with Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadanvis reinterating that the millennium development goal was incomplete without the sustainable development portrayed by the Janjati people who lived in perfect harmony with nature.
The Sammelan, held at Dr Hedgewar Smriti Mandir premises in Reshambag, was inaugurated by Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on October 2 coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was also present as guest of honour. Kalyan Ashram president Shri Jagdeoram Oraon, vice presidents Shri Kripa Prasad Singh and Sushri Nilima Patte, secretary Shri Chandrakant Deo and other dignitaries were also on the dais.
The Governor C Vidyasagar Rao emphasised that the contributions made by the Janajaties in Bharat’s Freedom Struggle should be included in the history. He cited numerous examples of Birsa Munda, Ramji Gond, Rani Gaidinliu et el, and said the contribution of these leaders do not find any mention in our school textbooks depriving our children of the great heritage to be proud of. He mentioned about Jallianwala Bagh like incident at Rawalpani in Nandurbar District of Maharashtra where the British soldiers fired at innocent, unarmed people and killed them. But this incident has never seen the light of the day as far as our history of Freedom Struggle is concerned, he lamented.
Shri Nitin Gadkari announced that his Ministry would construct road network worth Rs one lakh crore in North-eastern states which are mostly tribal dominated areas. Work worth Rs 16,000 crore has already begun and contracts have been given to the local people. Seeking help of Kalyan Ashram to implement the development agenda of the Government for welfare of Vanvasis, Shri Gadkari said present government is very keen on development of Vanvasi areas on the basis of innovation, entrepreneurship, technology and e-governance. He said uplifting life standard of Vanvasis would be possible on the basis of proper amalgamation of their traditional knowledge with modern science and technology like
internet.
Shri Jagdeoram Oraon said though there are laws for protection of Vanvasi areas, there are no provisions to protect the Vanvasis identity. The Vanvasi society would have to be awakened towards this so that they can put up a strong defence against the onslaughts on their identity from various quarters, he added. It may be mentioned that Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram has spread its work in 330 Vanvasi dominated districts of the country covering 52,000 villages with a battery of 972 full-time workers including 430 Vanvasi men and 141 women. It has developed an army of 3,320 health workers who have benefitted over 9 lakh tribal families in the remote areas of the country with proper health care delivery.
Union Minister of State Sudarshan Bhagat, who has a long association with VKA as a student inmate of one of its hostels during his education, conceded that this was the proud moment for him to be amongst the people who were working with a vision to improve the condition of the Janjati people.
In this three day conference 1,469 males and 288 females representing 236 Janjati PAN India took active participation. A total of 1,757 people across the country along with Andaman Nicobar and Nepal, were present for the event.

Senior Rashtra Sevika Samiti worker Smt Dipti Taranekar passed away in Indore on August 16. She held various responsibilities in Sanskar Bharati, Sewa Bharati, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and also Lokmanya Nagar Bhagini Mandal. She set an example before the housewives and working women how they can contribute to the society while discharging their routine responsibilities. As per her wishes her body was donated to Sri Aurobindo Medical College, Indore. Her eyes were donated to MK International Eye Bank, Indore. Born on November 29, 1960 in Bhopal she studied upto graduation. She is survived by two daughters and husband Shri Deepak Taranekar.Collective efforts needed for social harmony: Mohan Bhagwat
“Social unity gets stronger if the society moves forward unanimously. Temples, water bodies and the crematoriums should be shared by all. Equally, the country’s development is incomplete without development of villages, and cow protection is must for village development. It is time to take concrete steps for making villages self-reliant. This work should be done by designing comprehensive schemes,” said RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat while addressing the Sangh workers of Pashchmi Uttar Pradesh Kshetra in Haridwar on October 2.
The Sarsanghachalak said harmony is a prerequisite for making the society strong. We should take collective efforts to strengthen it. Every person in the society including those who are deprived should feel the harmony. Wherever the links of harmony are weak the anti-national forces start taking their undue advantages. The social and religious organisations should strengthen mutual dialogue to strengthen the social harmony. All such organisations should work together. He further said we believe in oneness but it should reflect in our conduct also. He said the devaluation in the family values is weakening the Hindu society. We need to strengthen the Parivar Prabodhan work also. The family must take the meals together at least once a weak and also should apprise the children of their glorious past. We can also use our festivals for inculcating the family values, he added.
The meeting prominently discussed five topics—cow protection, village development, Parivar Prabodhan, social harmony and Dharma Jagran. Senior Sangh leaders from Uttaranchal, Meerut and Brij Prant attended the meeting. Kshetra Sanghachalak Shri Darshanlal, Kshetra Karyavah Shri Manveer and Kshetra Pracharak Shri Alok Kumar were also present.
Over 65,000 students join ABVP rally against anti-student policies
More than 65,000 students joined the mega rally organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Bengaluru and Hubli on October 6 to protest against the State government’s anti-farmer and anti-student policies. The protest rallies were named as Transforming Education, which gained massive support at both the places. ABVP national general secretary Srihari Borikar addressed the rally in Bengaluru in which nearly 40,000 students participated. (VSK Karnataka)
Gift cow products on festivals
“The cow and the cow based products are foundation of happy, prosperous and healthy life. Cow is the backbone of our economy, way of life, spirituality and also physical growth,” said VHP working president Dr Pravin Togadia while inaugurating a cow products sale counter in East Delhi on October 2. He said Sanatan Dharma is a scientific way of life and cow is its foundation. Therefore those who cannot rear a cow in the cities should at least be provided with the cow based products life milk, ghee, etc. Uttar Kshetra Gau Sewa Pramukh of VHP Shri Rashtra Prakash appealed to the people to gift the cow products to their well wishers during the festivals.
