After the sweeping victory in the civic polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Bengaluru, the BJP repeated its triumph in the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) polls in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The elections were held on September 20, 2015. In a spectacular electoral victory, BJP bagged 11 seats out of 24 seats.
While BJP asserted its dominance in 11 seats, Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) got 6 and 2 seats respectively. AIADMK and DMK finished with one seat each and the rest of the three seats were occupied by independent candidates. In the 2010 elections, the BJP won only four seats whereas the Congress party won nine seats out of 18 seats. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress which had won one seat in last elections did not field even a single candidate from any of the 24 constituencies this year.
Speaking to the Organiser, BJP National Secretary Shri Tarun Chugh said, “Not only in the PBMC polls, BJP made a big leap also in Pradhan elections in which the Party won 43 Pradhan seats. And we have won majority of the Zilla Parishads in Andamans.” He attributed the success to the good governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the excellent organisational skills of BJP President Amit Shah. Shri Tarun Chugh is in-charge for Andaman and Nicobar Island.
As two independent candidates also joined the Party, BJP has ensured its majority and elected Smt Sheela Singh as the chairperson of PBMC. “People of Port Blair city have shown faith in BJP and Shri Narendra Modi and I shall try my best to follow the mantra of out Prime Minister, which is sabka sath sabka vikas,” Smt Sheela Singh said. In Pradhan elections, the BJP candidates won in 43 out of 70 Pradhan seats. Likewise, the party won 22 out of 35 seats of Zilla Parishad.
