National Secretary of BJP Amit Shah felicitated 84-years-old noted Gandhian Natwar Bhai Thakkar for his life-long contribution in connecting the North-East people with the mainstream. He honoured him with the third Karmayogi Award in a programme organised by My Home Bharat in New Delhi on September 13.
On the occasion, chief guest Amit Shah said, “I am feeling proud that I got chance to honour Natwar Bhai. People like Thakkar dedicated their life for the nation. Any officer being sent to the Nagaland goes there with so many thoughts but the thought with which Natwar Bhai went to Nagaland has not only laid a foundation to Gandhi Ashram but also did social service for decades, this shows that he is a man of great thought and high character. I would also like to recall all the known and unknown people and workers, who devoted their life for the nation’s integrity and development of North-East region.” North-East is on the priority of Narendra Modi-led Government, he added. He also thanked to My Home Bharat for honouring Natwar Bhai.
Shah honoured Natwar Bhai with Karmayogi Trophy and cash prize of one lakh rupees.  Later Natwar Bhai dedicated that amount to Guwahati’s Kasturba Gandhi Ashram. By donating the prize money once again he proved his greatness.
Sunil Deodhar, founder of My Home Bharat said Natwar Bhai Thakkar decided to serve North-East at an early age by Gandhi’s motivation. During his over 40 years stay in Nagaland, Thakkar was attacked, received threats from insurgents to leave the State but he continued to walk Gandhiji’s path of self-reliance, self-dependence. He started Gandhi Ashram there. Hundreds of youth studied from there and presently serving nation in different sectors. I would also like to make an appeal to the youths of Bharat to visit North-East region once in their life time. After Modi Government came in power the problems of North-East region are slowly coming to end.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh was also present on the occasion. He said that in the past few months Modi Government has announced many projects for North-East region. We are working on the expansion of tourism, rural development and basic amenities in this region. We are going to start 18 FM channels in different languages very soon. Not only this, we are starting a Bachelor Degree course centred on North-East in Delhi’s Jamia Milia Islamia University.

Mark Tully wins Gopichand National Literary Award

The former Chief of the BBC’s Bureau Mark Tully in New Delhi gratefully accepted the Gopichand National Literary Award-2015 from Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah in the presence of Chairman of Pragna Bharati, TH Chowdary, Vice-Chancellor of the English and Foreign Languages University, Sunaina Singh on September 7, at Telugu University Hyderabad instituted by Kalavahini, a Hyderabad based NGO.
From expressing concern over climate change and the need to combat it effectively,  at ‘Bharat’ being ‘Asli’ (Real), while America was ‘Naqli’ (Fake), apart from working on unity among religions and advising Bharat to stop its race towards consumerism and focus more on the spiritualism (it was known for) said  celebrated journalist and author Sir William Mark Tully. He emphasised that climate crisis should force everyone to rethink the way we manage things. The fundamental problem is we are treating nature as if it’s a resource and abuse it anyway we desire, so are the humans treated as resource in the management culture and not as individuals.
“We don’t want Bharat to be like America. You need to be integrated,” he said in response to a question about when Bharat would attain the status of a developed country. Bharat should preserve its own genius and should build a nation with deeper philosophical meanings behind its beliefs. He regretted that alongwith the Western world the so-called Bharatiya elites are also destroying the Bharatiya culture.
Rosiah extolled the virtues of Gopichand, a great Telugu poet, and a playwright on whose memory a postal stamp was released by Government of Bharat on his 100th Birthday.                            —N Nagaraja Rao, Hyderabad
