The issue of child pornography has become a worrisome phenomenon worldwide. It hampers the healthy growth of the children and also leads them into the situation of extreme sexual abuse.

The dramatic rise of the internet has given a considerable and easier access to search for the adult content which is available on the numerous sites. As the legal definition states child pornography is any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor (under 18years of age). Visual depictions include photographs, videos, digital or computer generated images indistinguishable form and actual minor.  Child pornography has led to the increase in the crime cases against children. Though the world is leading towards super advancement and becoming all rigorous techie that is facilitating the young minds into illegal actions also.  In various countries pornography in general is banned and if we talk about the child pornography it is strictly prohibited in all most all the countries of the world.

Financial Aspect of Pornography

  • According to compiled numbers from respected news and research organisations, in the Year 2006-2007. Every second $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography. Every second 28,258 internet users are viewing pornography.
  • As of 2014 the porn industry was believed to bring in more than $13  billion on a yearly basis in the United States
  • According to toptenreviews.com, the countries with the largest revenue from the porn industry (in 2006) include China ($27.40 billion), South Korea ($25.73 billion), Japan ($19.98 billion) and the US ($13.33 billion).
  • The porn industry is a major component of the world economy, generating large scale revenue and employment.

Under article 34 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, all UN Member States — except the United States —committed to protecting
children from sexual abuse. Here is the related data on the pornography all over the world:
Pakistan
Possession and distribution of child pornography is legal in Pakistan. The production of pornography in Pakistan is legal as long as it involves actors of 13 years or older. If it involves an actor less than 13 years of age, a heavy amount of penality is imposed. There is no criminal penalty. Because of the lax law Pakistan is the world's largest exporter of young pornography. But recently, in Pakistan a case of child sex racket has been unfolded in which 7 people have got arrested that clearly tells the alarming state of Pakistan in context of child abuse. And a resolution against the country’s worst incident of child abuse in Kasur has been passed unanimously by the Sindh Assembly.
Europe
According to EU law, images showing children taking part in a sexual act or where the child’s naked body is revealed are considered as child pornography. But European hardcore pornography is dominated by a few pan-European producers and distributors, the most notable of which is the Private Media Group. Child sexual abuse and exploitation are significant problems in Europe. It is estimated that between 10 per cent and 20 per cent of children are sexually assaulted in childhood.
China
Pornography of any kind, including child pornography is illegal in the People's Republic of China. As of 2015 China has no specific law that refers to child pornography in particular. Under the criminal code of China, those producing, reproducing, publishing, selling, or disseminating obscene materials with the purpose of making a profit may be sentenced up to three years in prison.
Unites States of America
Federal law of US prohibits the production, distribution, reception, and possession of an image of child pornography using or affecting any means or facility of interstate or foreign commerce. Specifically, Section 2251 makes it illegal to persuade, induce, entice, or coerce a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for purposes of producing visual depictions of that conduct.  Any individual who attempts or conspires to commit a child pornography offense is also subject to prosecution under federal law.

All the nations must entrust their resources in view with the protection of children should become a global priority. This protection includes a firm commitment to the detection and prevention of sex crimes against children and to the treatment of children who have been sexually exploited. Effective law enforcement and a willing government to allocate the necessary actions taken in context of child pornography should be the only concern for the global community.                     Priyanka Taneja
