Sewa International and Rashtriya Sewa Bharati with the support of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh Nepal started distribution of school kits to earthquake-affected students on August 4. In the initial phase to be run for two weeks, a total of 31,000 school kits would be distributed in the worst affected districts. The first school chosen for the school kits was Shree Chandrodaya Higher Secondary School, Primary Wing at Vishaltaar, Dhading District. A total of 140 students, belonging to 1st to 6th standards, received the kits. President of Sewa International, USA, Shri N Sreenath and Rashtriya Sewa Bharati president Shri Surya Prakash Tonk presided over the distribution ceremony. The school kits include a spacious bag, notebooks, pencil box/geometry box with accessories, registers, drawing book, graph book and crayon box.

Releasing s book on Kanwar Yatra noted saint Swami Divyananda Maharaj said Kanwar Yatra is an ancient tradition, which has Puranic, religious and cultural significance. It has been in the vogue even in Treta and Dwapar Yugas in different forms. The function was organised by the Vishwa Samvad Kendra Meerut. Swamiji called upon the people to preserve their cultural heritage with a glorious feeling. He said the Yatra not only has spiritual significance, it is also good for the health, as walking has been regarded good for health. Editor of Rashtradev Shri Ajay Mittal said though many efforts are being made to harm it, the Bharatiya culture is very rich. No one could damage it even in the 5,000 years. Kanwar Yatra signifies the richness of our culture. The Hindi book, Kanwar Yatra, Ek Vivechan has been written by Pt Sumantra Kumar. The book highlights various aspects of the religious voyage. n
Baba Yogendraji felicitated
in Kathmandu
Founder of Sanskar Bharati and the person devoted to the promotion of Indian arts, literature and culture Baba Yogendraji was felicitated in Kathmandu on August 7. The felicitation function was organised by Himaliyi Patrika. Editor of the Patrika Shri Sachidananda Mishra presented a shawl, Rudraksh garland and a bouquet as mark of the felicitation to Baba Yogendraji. Speaking at the function Yogendraji said literature connects the society while the art connects the hearts. No state or the community can stay away from it. Referring to the recent earthquake in Nepal he said this is a fact that we suffered a heavy loss in the catastrophe but this land of Baba Pashupati Nath and Gautam Buddha would again rise up and move forward on the path of development with double speed. BMS to plant 60 lakh saplings on
August 28
After contacting one crore people in one day on July 23, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has now decided to plant 60 lakh saplings in a single day on August 28 to commemorate 60 years of the BMS. According to BMS north zone organising secretary Shri Pawan Kumar, only the workers who can nurture the plants properly will be allowed to plant the sapling. “We have directed to plant only the sapling of Neem, Peepal, Sheesham, trees and not the plants like Tulsi. These saplings will be planted at parks, schools and temples premises or any other public place,” Shri Kumar told Organiser.
Apart from it, the country’s largest labour organisation has decided to conduct countrywide ‘Cycle Yatras’ from September 17 to 25 to generate awareness among the people. Such yatras in the form of padyatras have already begun in Kerala at Panchayat level from August 1.
In October, big events will be organised at 60 places to highlight the problems of the local workers. Apart from it, a massive fund collection campaign will be conducted in November and the target is to collect Rs 60 crore.
All members will contribute in this fund. Similarly, 60 Study Classes will be conducted across the country in January-February 2016 to impart organisational training to the workers below the age of 40 years so that a committed new generation of leaders could be prepared. Special functions will be held for women in March. On March 25 there will be events organised by the Sarvapanth Samadar Manch. District conventions will be held in April 2016. n
Celebrating Guru Pooja with Social Service
It is a common practice in RSS for householders to leave their families behind, go to another place and stay there for a years or months in order to uplift a backward village. The unique instance of a Sanyasi going out of his Mutt and staying for six months in a far off village (Neelamangalam in Kanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu) and initiating quite a few projects for betterment of the villagers (most of whom are Dalits) came to light at the South Chennai Vibagh Guru Puja function on August 9. The Sanyasi was Swami Brahma Yoganandha of Yogashanthi Gurukulam who narrated his experience at the function.
Speaking at the function Sahsarkaryavah Dr Krishna Gopal dwelt at length on the unique feature of Guru in the Bharatiya tradition and how Dr Hedgewar showed the saffron flag as the guide for Hindu society. Former judge of Madras High Court Justice Kanakaraj was impressed by the organisational strength as well as the disciplined stand of RSS on any national issues. Citing various instances he impressed upon the audience the importance of the glorious legacy of the 5,000 years old culture which empowers Hindu society and philosophy. Sambhag Sanghachalak Shri Kalyan Singh and Sah Prant Sanghachalak Shri Kumaraswamy and Shri Srikumar Fomra also shared the dais. (VSK Chennai)
RSS Chennai office blast Martyrs remembered
Martyrs Day was observed in Chennai by offering floral tribute to those who were killed in a powerful bomb blast on August 8, 1993. The blast had reduced to rubbles the front side of the two-storied building of RSS office. Eleven people were killed and several were injured. Eighteen people in the case were convicted by TADA court and three namely Hyder Ali, Abubacker Siddiq and Kaja Nizamu-deen were sentenced to life imprisonment. The Supreme Court dismissed the case on December 6, 2010, setting them aside and letting them free. Shocked at the incomplete investigation by CBI and Supreme Court judgement, the Chennai unit of RSS then filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court. “It is shocking to learn about the acquittal of dreaded terrorists in the case. The hardcore terrorists can go scot free due to incomplete investigation by CBI or due to the technicalities. The only ground on which the Supreme Court acquitted the accused is that the CBI failed to prove the source of RDX/PETN, the explosives used in the blast. It is not in dispute that the accused entered into conspiracy, planted bombs and that the 11 people died, several injured in the blast,” said Shri M Sundara Rama Reddy, then Sanghachalak of Chennai in a letter written to Prime Minister and Home Minister on December 10, copy of which was sent to CBI Director.
