Kerala Newsletter: Sougrandhikam

Union Minister for Law & Justice, Sadananda Gowda released, Justice VR Krishna Iyer Memorial Sourvenir, titled Sougrandhikam published by Kochi Antharashtra Pusthakotsavam (Kochi International Book Festival – KIBF) in Kochi on February 2. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister told about the noble and highly professional character of the late genius. He expressed his regret for his inability to attend the 100th birthday of the departed humanist par excellence last year.
Gowda lauded the efforts of KIBF to put an end to the lamentation that ‘reading habit is dying’. These days youngsters read only course related books. But, by reading only literary works one can develop one’s personality and caliber. Gowda was all in praise for the KIBF activities in this direction.
Prof MK Sanoo, noted literary critic and exemplary language teacher received the first copy of Sougrandhikam from Gowda.
Earlier in the day, Law Minister presented Malliyoor Memorial Award to E Sreedharan, the chief advisor of Delhi Metro Corporation in a function held in Malliyoor Ganapathi Temple, Kottayam.
Late Malliyoor Sankaran Namboothiri was a legend in Bhagavatha Sapthaham. He had performed more than 10,000 sapthahams during his life. He had received the ‘Bhagavatha Hamsam’ title for his relentless efforts in his field. Minister stated that he had heard a lot about the late legend; he could feel the positive energy as soon as he stepped into the temple premises.
Former ISRO Chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan and famous Carnatic musician Dr Balamurali Krishna are the earlier recipients of the Malliyoor Award. Later on Gowda felicitated Vijay Babu who swam about 25 kilometers in Ernakulam backwaters, for the propagation of the noble idea of ‘Swacch Bharat’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gowda presented Jalashree Award to Sri Babu.
The swimming campaign was organised by SIGN (Society for Integrated Growth of The Nation), an NGO led by BJP State general secretary AN Radhakrishnan.
The programme was presided over by KIBF General Secretary EN Nandakumar. T Satisan, souvenir Editor and Organiser Kerala Correspondent delivered the VR Krishna Iyer memorial lecture. The BJP national executive member PK Krishnadas addressed the gathering. SC Jails CPM Leader for Abusing Judiciary

In 2010, the Kerala High Court passed an order prohibiting public meetings at roadsides, since it created traffic blocks and accidents. CPM leader from Kannur, MV Jayarajan, known for his acid tongue opposed the judgement at a public meeting and called the Judges Shumban. In slang language, it is an abuse, roughly meaning an idiot.
The Kerala High Court initiated ‘Suo moto Contempt’ proceedings against him and sentenced him to six months imprisonment. After 19 days in jail, he got bail from the Supreme Court of India. The SC, now, in a landmark 16 pages judgement sentenced him to four week’s imprisonment. Justice Vikramjit Sen observed that by the use of the derogatory word, Jayarajan scandalised and lowered the dignity of the court, as an intentional and calculated obstruction in the administration of justice.
CPM has a history of verbally abusing Judges and organising agitations against them, whenever judgements are not in their favour. Judges who sentence CPM workers to imprisonment for murdering the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh cadres are verbally attacked and their effigies are burnt. While CPM gives uncalled sermons to others on abiding court verdicts, its track record is pitiable.

Swayamsevak hacked to death

To check the flow of CPM cadres to the RSS and to satisfy their ever-living lust for Sangh blood, CPM cadres hacked to death BJP Alappuzha constituency committee president Venugopal (46) on January 30. There were several hacking marks on his body and a deep cut on his neck.
CPM district conferences as a prelude to the State meet and plenum have just concluded. In all the district meets, the main topic of discussion was the increase in BJP votes during the May 2014 polls and the increasing support from the Hindu organisations like the National Service Scheme (NSS), Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP), Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha (KPMS) and Dheevara Sabha to the RSS and the BJP.
The conferences also expressed grave concern at the flow of the CPM cadres to the BJP in the face of grave infighting within it. It also expressed surprise at BJP being seen as an alternative by its predominantly Hindu support base.
In Kannur also, the CPM has let loose violence on RSS and BJP cadres. Lorries, two-wheelers and houses of several cadres including KK Dinesan have been attacked in different areas of the State.

Rampant Cocaine Parties

Intro: The Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has admitted that the international drug mafia has deep roots in Kerala and is very active.

On January 31, a Malayalam new generation film star Shine Tom, Director Blessey Syllvestar and three other girls in the film and media industry were arrested from a high-end apartment in Kochi for participating in a ‘Cocaine Party’. Seven grams of cocaine valued at Rs 10 lakh were seized from them. The apartment belonged to Mohammed Nisham, who has 11 criminal cases against him which includes locking up a woman police constable in his ‘Rolls Royce’ and crushing a security guard because of delay in opening the gate. Police is planning to arrest him under the non-bailable Goonda Act as they suspect he is the kingpin behind the drug-surge in Kochi.
The Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has admitted that the international drug mafia has deep roots in Kerala and is very active. Drug abuse and liquor consumption has become rampant, even among school children.
Recent 12 tons of red sandalwood valued at over Rs 5 crore were seized by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials following a tip-off at The International Container Transhipment Terminal. Brokers based at Dubai and Sharjah are the kingpins with strong bases in Kochi. Red sandalwood mainly goes to China, Japan and Singapore via Dubai. Entire operations are through Hawala. Red sandalwood grown in Western Ghats forests reaches Kochi for shipment.
Recently, 2 Sub-Inspectors of Kerala Police Immigration wing arrested from the Kochi airport for facilitating one Mohammed Ijas for smuggling 4 Kg gold. Rs 5 lakh were seized from them. Every day, from all the three airports of Kerala, seizures of gold take place ritually. With rampant consumption of drugs and liquor, the future of Kerala looks bleak.
