Readers’ Forum: Why can’t Bhagavad Gita be a national manuscript?

This is with reference to the statement of the west Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee that Bhagavad Gita cannot be made a national manuscript in a secular country like Bharat, except the Constitution . This was her stiff reaction on the statement of Minister of External Affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj who demanded and urged the Centre to recognise and declare Gita as a national manuscript. I wish to bring to the notice of madam Mamataji that the Constitution of India which came into force on January 26th 1950 has been amended a number of times in accordance with convenience and circumstances .On the other hand thousands of years old Holy book Gita which has got a number of shlokas covered under 18 chapters has not been amended even once. Not a single letter has been changed . What is wrong if it is recognised as a national manuscript? Why hue and cry is being raised on this issue? Lokmanya Tilak and Mahatama Gandhi were staunch advocates of Gita. Dag Hammarskjold who was the General Secretary of UNO used to say that whenever he was in depression and under tension he used to read Gita to get peace of mind. Madam Mamata Banerjee and the sycophants are well aware that in all Islamic and Christian countries they have their own national religion and national manuscript. So if Bharat adopts Gita as its national manuscript ,what is wrong in this.

In Jharkhand , the BJP has emerged victorious with flying colours , winning a majority in the Assembly for the first time since the State’s creation. But the voters of Jammu & Kashmir have given a hung house , without having any party winning enough numbers to form a government on its own . There has also been a polarisation of votes due to Congress’s unwise policies during the last 60 years. The pseudo-secularist appeasement policies of the Congress have made the Hindu dominated Jammu citizens feel like second class citizens, as compared to the Muslims in the Kashmir Valley. So much so , that in the Muslim dominated Valley , the BJP could not get a single seat . But with Shri Narendra Modi’s aggressive campaign in the State, the party did very well in the Jammu region. The BJP has been able to restore confidence among the minority Hindu community that it would be treated fairly.

Solar Plants

Australia has broken the record in power generation by converting solar energy into electricity. More than 40 per cent of sunlight is converted into electricity in Australia. Shri Narendra Modi too has done wonders in the field of power generation in Gujarat by encouraging to build more than 90 per cent of solar plants across the State in just a couple of years. Modiji’s main goal is development of Bharat and I am sure that he will spread sunshine by harnessing solar power to the maximum extent.
