First time in the history of Nair Service Society (NSS), a person with RSS alligence has been invited to former’s centenary celebrations. NSS celebrated its 100th foundation day on January 2 at its head quarters in Perunna, Kottayam district, Kerala.
This time Adv PS Sreedharan Pillai, BJP national executive member, noted poet and writer, was one of the special guests. ISRO’s retired chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan and Malayalam matinee idol Mohanlal were also present. The programme was inaugurated by Kerala CM Oommen Chandy.
Sreedharan Pillai used the occasion to highlight the excellent rapport of second RSS Sarsanghchalak Guruji MS Golwalkar had with NSS founder Mannathu Padmanabhan. Mannathu worked as the president of Kanyakumari Vivekananda Kendram at the behest of Shri Guruji and late Eknath Ranade.
He held the position until his last breath in 1970, hardly six months before the inauguration of Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari, said Pillai.
However, NSS had never invited any leader with RSS connection, until last week, to share the dais with their leaders and other VIPs in connection with its jubilee celebrations. That is why political observers see much significance in the latest development.
NSS is the powerful caste organisation of Hindu Nair community and despite being the leader of Nair community Mannathu always lived as a Hindu leader. As Sreedharan Pillai rightly said in his address, Mannathu played pivotal roles for the successful conduct of Vaikom Sathyagraha and Guruvayoor Sathyagraha of 1924-25 and 1931 respectively.
In 1950s, Mannathu, along with prominent SNDP and Congress leader R Shankar, founded Hindu Mahamandalam, a grand alliance of Nairs and Ezhavas, the two powerful castes in Kerala. The idea was to achieve Hindu unity. So, the Hindus in Kerala, cutting across party and religious lines see the NSS invitation to a BJP leader as a qualitative change in the organisation’s mind set. They believe that it will make lot of social engineering in Kerala’s political conditions.

Intro: 1000 students to take pledge to donate bone marrow on Netaji Subhas Jayanti.

A new record has been created in the initiative for body and bone marrow donation when 315 people pledged to donate their body and 203 people signed forms for bone marrow donation. Another history will be created on January 23, 2015 when 1000 students of Mewar Group of Institutions are set to take pledge to donate bone marrow on Netaji Subhas Jayanti. Thousands of people visited and pledged for donation of their body. A team of AIIMS doctors has taken the blood sample of donors. This history was created in a programme organised by Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti in collaboration with Mewar Group of Institutions at the Mewar Auditorium, Vasundhra.
On this occasion, Chief Guest Jain Sadhvi Samta Shri emphasised to change the attitude of society towards body donation overcoming old traditions and superstition. She said, we have to change our mindset to save humanity.
“Donating body is attaining immortality. This is a revolution to detach ourselves from our body,” said Shri Alok Kumar, President of Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti.
Dr Narendra Mehra, research Dean from AIIMS said, presently the number of bone marrow donors is 3000 in India. We need 1.25 lakh bone marrows every year for transplantation but we hardly get around 500. Dr Ashok Kumar Gadia, Chairman of Mewar Group of Institution said, body donation is a human service to make not only life but death meaningful.
