News Round-up: Noted educationist Dr MK Sridhar felicitated

RSS Sahsarakaryavah Shri Dattatreya Hosabale and former ISRO chief Dr Kasthuri Rangan felicitated noted educationist and former ABVP functionary Dr MK Sridhar on his 60th birth anniversary in Bengaluru on October 26. Sahasrapadi, a biography on life of Dr Sridhar was also released by Dattatreya Hosabale.
Shri Hosabale remembered the days of late 70s and early 80s when he was an ABVP leader and because of anti-Emergency movement, he met Dr Sridhar at Hindupur for first time. “Though physically handicapped so severely, Sridhar stood against all odds, challenging himself each day reached a height of success through his dedication and commitment to serve the nation with patriotism. Charaiveti is the mantra which imbued this journey” he said.
Educationist Dr NR Shetty, Lexicographer Prof G Venkatasubbaiah senior pracharak Shri Mai Cha Jayadeva, Prajna Pravah’s Prof PV Krishna Bhat, ABVP’s Raghunandan, Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Dr Thimme Gouda and many other prominent leaders were also present on the occasion.
Bharat Parikrama Yatra reaches Prayag
Aimed at Gram Vikas, the former RSS Akhil Bharatiya Sewa Pramukh Shri Sitaram Kedilaya led Bharat Parikrama Yatra reached historic city of Prayag on its 802 day covering around 9,000 km distance by walk on October 20.
On next day, RSS Karnataka Dakshin Prant Pracharak Shri Mukunda CR, Sah Prant Pracharak Shri Sudhir, Karnataka Uttar Prant Pracharak Shri Shankaranand called on Shri Sitaram Kedilaya near Prayag, and wished him for the Yatra and for his good health. The Yatra entered Uttar Pradesh on August 2 by entering Majeela Village in Philibhit district. Previously, the Yatra was in Uttarakhand for about 156 days.
Ashok Singhal for temple in Ayodhya
VHP patron Shri Ashok Singhal hopes that the construction of Sri Ram Temple in Ayodhya would begin soon. In a statement issued in Allahabad on October 22 he said: “As a server and worker of Vishva Hindu Parishad, I trust that the construction work of Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir would begin soon. A lasting cordial relation between Hindus and Muslims will come to stay for all times. Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, during his New York visit for the United Nations Millennium Summit in September, 2000, had given assurance to over 100 Bharatiya Sant delegates there that in the event of the BJP gaining majority in the Bharatiya Parliament, they would fulfil the promises made for Sri Ram Janmabhoomi in their manifesto. When the Ram devotees have today given it that majority, the Modi Government now ought to make solemn and earnest proactive efforts in this direction. The sant fraternity eagerly awaits this positive move in honour and celebration of Sri Rama – the Hero of Humanity who did away with wickedness and global terrorism in the Treta Yuga thereby gifting a safer world to the succeeding generations of humanity.”
He said on the auspicious occasion of Deepavali, the Hindu society, including the entire Sant Fraternity, wishes to see the early fulfillment of the resolve of construction of a grand temple of nativity for Sri Ram at the 70 acre terra firma of Sri Ramjanmabhoomi at Ayodhya – the birthplace of Sri Ram duly recognised and confirmed by the Court of Law.

ABVP welcomes rise in fellowship for Research Students
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) welcomed the decision of BJP government to raise the fellowships for research students and congratulated the research student community for its democratic fight for hike in fellowships in the last one year. The ABVP was at the forefront in this movement and had actively campaigned for immediate fellowship hikes, especially after the new government took charge.
“ABVP believes that this step of stipend hike with an amount of Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000 for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Rs 18,000 to Rs 28,000 for Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) per month excluding HRA is a major step to boost the morale of researchers in the country. Though the announcement stated it to be a hike for research scholars, but much has to be clarified from the other funding agencies under MHRD as stated in the press release of DST ‘Each Ministry and other agencies can now use these hikes as guidelines to make suitable changes to their specific fellowship programmes’,” ABVP said in a statement.

Arunima Sinha to be felicitated with Prof. Yeshwantrao Kelkar Youth Award
First female amputee to climb Mount Everest, Arunima Sinha, has been selected for Prof. Yeshwantrao Kelkar Youth Award for 2014. She is being felicitated for creating a history by conquering the highest peak in the world with artificial leg and her fighting spirit against all odds and dedicated social work. This being very rare example of overcoming challenges with great courage and unparalleled will power and dedication. She stands as a source of inspiration for youths across the world. The award which comprises of Rs 50,000/- cash, certificate and a memento will be presented on November 16 at the National Conference of ABVP in Amritsar. Arunima, a former national volleyball and football player, was pushed out of general coach of Padmawat Express after she strongly resisted thieves wanting to snatch her bag and gold chain. She was hit by a passing train which crushed her left leg below knee. The leg was amputated by doctors to save her life. While undergoing treatment for 4 months in AIIMS she could not do anything on her own. The life ahead was very difficult for her. But brave heart Arunima bounced back and resolved to do something with her life, resolved to climb Mount Everest. She excelled in the basic mountaineering course and took training and guidance from Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to climb Mt. Everest. She is now dedicated for the social work of “Pandit Chandra Shekhar Azad Vikalang Khel Academy” which will give free training and guidance for poor and differently abled persons in various sports.
Vigilant Hindus force news channel to apologise
‘Puthiya Thalaimurai’ a Tamil news channel provoked for a controversial debate, titling ‘Deepavali – Is it a National Function?,’ on the day of Deepavali, hurting the sentiments of Hindus across the society. Hundreds of Hindu activists staged a protest in front of the channel office demanding an apology. Shri Parameswaran, State President of Hindu Munnani along with Shri R Krishnamurthy, Shri SS Murugesan, Shri Ravindran, Shri Manoharan, city secretary, met the CEO of the channel and demanded an apology. The CEO said apologetically that the programme aired was not to hurt the sentiments of the Hindus and carried an apologetic scroll on their channel.(VSK Chennai)
ABVP helps flood affected students in J&K
ABVP activists reached out to the students of remotest Gulzarpura area of Awantipura tehsil under Pulwama districts of Kashmir Valley on October 28 to extend helping hand to the flood affected students. ABVP national general secretary Shrihari along with State general secretary (organisation) Shri Pawan Sharma reached Gulzarpura higher secondary school and distributed help in cash to 26 students (10 boys and 16 girls) who suffered severely in the recent floods. The help was distributed at a simple function held at Gulzarpura School in which large number of students, teachers and locals participated. Locals and students appreciated this initiative of the ABVP.
