Bhartendu Harishchandra Awards
Acknowledging New Age Indian Literature ?
Publications Division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), Government of India has acknowledged the torch-bearers of resurgence in Indian literature by awarding them with Bhartendu Harishchandra Awards for the year 2011 and 2012.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar has given away the awards on September 9 at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. The programme was well-attended with the presence of eminent guests which includes Additional Director and Head of Publications Division (MIB), Dr Sadhana Rout; Secretary (MIB), Anurag Shrivastava and Additional Secretary (MIB), Jitendra Shanker Mathur, who shared the dais with the Minister. The function also noticed the company of several senior officials from different ministries, literary personals, media and students. Speaking at the length of new challenges in the printing technology, Javadekar said that, “He wants the Publication Division to work with new ideas and insights coming into the field of printing. I will also exhort the division to venture into conserving old books with the technology and e-publishing.”
These awards were given on the fortunate occasion of Bhartendu Harishchandra’s birthday and the Minister has promised to have these awards every year on the same day with new categories and increased amount of reward money. The awards were categorised in Journalism & Mass Communication, National Integration, Women’s issues and Children’s literature. The competition was open to allIndians including the original writing in Hindi. —Monica Sangwan?
