Huge Cache of Weapons Recovered in Bangladesh?
The Rapid Action Battalion personnel of Bangladesh had recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives on June 4 hidden in the forest of the Satchhari area in Habibganj district of Bangladesh. The weapon recovered includes over a hundred anti-tank weapons. The recovery was reported to be the biggest since the capture of ten truckloads of weapons in the Chittagong area in 2004. Bangladesh media reported that the weapons might have belonged to United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) as it had strong base in Bangladesh till the government evicted the ultras from the base and handed over the key leaders to India.

However, Bharatiya Security forces are trying to confirm whether the weapons recovered belonged to ULFA. From time to time, sources revealed that communication between the ULFA leaders was intercepted but the presence of such weapons in Bangladesh was never mentioned. As revealed by sources ULFA never had strong presence in the area from where the weapons have been recovered.
It is said that the militants belonging to the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) had strong base in that area. But it is not yet confirmed whether the ATTF kept the weapons in the forest as the outfit has never used such weapons in the past. Nor, ATTF leaders in their interrogations ever mentioned anything about keeping such weapons in Bangladesh. Presumably, ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh Barua might have asked ATTF to keep the weapons in that area. Or, some armed rebel groups might have kept the weapons in that area is being considered.
Meanwhile, the violence hit Garo Hills district of Meghalaya was stunned following the killing of a 35 years old mother of four children near Chokpot area around 6 pm on June 3, 2014. The 4-5 cadres of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) are believed to have pumped 5-6 rounds of bullets into her head killing her on the spot, said Lokador Syiem, Superintendent of Police of South Garo Hills.

These militants dragged her out after confining her husband and their children in their house. The eye-witness children of the victim said two GNLA militants initially tried to rape and molest their mother. On being resisted the militants killed her. The police had received an unconfirmed report of the killing of woman at about 7:30 pm same day but police did not went to spot fearing an ambush by GNLA militants. DSP CM Sangma along with a team next morning went to Chokpot to investigate. A handwritten letter was found wherein GNLA has accused the deceased of being a police informer.

Yet in other insurgency related act, a SP and his personal security guard were killed in an encounter with militants of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. SP Nityanand Goswami of Hemren Police Station was leading an operation against KPLT in remote Rongthong area where encounter occurred on June 6, 2014.
Rebel attacks in seven mini-States of North-East region have been increased and illegal weapons are pushed in this region for causing bloodshed by subversive elements.
