World This Week: Petition to safeguard Hindus in B’desh

What the Bangladeshi Hindus have been facing for a long time is not hidden to anybody. The anti-Hindu atrocities – murder, gang rape, land seizures, child abduction, forced conversion, religious desecration, and more; which continue to occur at an average rate of at least one per week is leading to the disappearance of Hindus? In this context, advocate Rabindra Ghosh of Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) an International Human Rights organisation based in Bangladesh on behalf of Bangladesh Center for Human Rights and Development (BCHRD) moved a writ application under Article 102 of Constitution of Bangladesh before the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on May 20, urging to protect the religious minorities and their properties after 35 Hindu family houses were attacked, damaged, looted at Bag Sitarampur, within Comilla district.

The news has been published widely in the national dailies “Kalerkantha”, “Sangbad” and “Protom Alo” of Bangladesh. Their Lordships Justice Kazi Rezaul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain – a Division Bench heard Advocate Ghosh elaborately regarding atrocities on Hindus and after hearing both the sides High court issued a rule calling upon the government to show cause as to why, the protection of the Hindus of Comilla will not be provided and directed by the government to protect the minorities in Comilla. Court has also directed government to submit a report 17.06.2014 regarding compliance of the order. Earlier, Ghosh had handed a report on the continuous atrocities committed on Bangladesh Hindus to President Paranab Mukherjee urging him to protect the rights of minorities living in Bangladesh.
