The minorities in Bangladesh are at extreme risk and the Human Rights organsiation in Bangladesh have appealed President Pranab Mukherjee to take necessary steps to protect the religious minorities in the country.
Persecution of Hindus and other minorities has become a common business for the Muslim fundamentalists in Bangladesh. And, over the years, they have vandalised hundreds of religious places (of the minorities) in the country. In this regard, members of several Human Rights organisations have requested Indian President Pranab Mukherjee to take special concern to save the minority Hindu-Buddhist-Christians in Bangladesh. The President has been informed about the matters of upsurging Jehadi groups and, of the plight of non-Muslim minorities in Bangladesh, under an adopted State religion of Islam by violating the norms of Constitution of 1971 in Bangladesh.
A printed book of fact-finding report on the continuous atrocities, torture, abduction, rape, murder of Bangladesh minorities in the span of 2011-2014 in Bangladesh has been handed over to the President by Rabindra Ghosh, an advocate with the Bangladesh Minority Watch (BMW), an international Human Right organisation based in Bangladesh. Sitangshu Guha of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, New York has also handed him a Memorandum of appeal urging him to protect the rights of minorities.
In a recent incident on April 27 in Bangladesh, BMW received information from reliable sources that some Muslim fundamentalists attacked 35 houses and one temple belonging to Hindus at Baghsitarampur in Comilla. Later, it was revealed that the attack followed after a rumour that a Facebook post had allegedly defamed Prophet Muhammad came into open. As the rumour spread among the locals, the Muslims of Baghsitarampu area started demolishing the houses and temples belonging to the religious minorities, and the Hindus in the area had no choice but to run away to save their lives.
The delegates have requested the Indian President thus to take steps to put an end to this torture. They have told him that the Hindus in Bangladesh have reduced from 30 percent to 8 percent in the recent years because of the continuous atrocities faced at the hands of the fundamentalist Muslims.?
Having taken notice of the issue shared in the reports, Mukherjee has assured the delegation of conveying the message to the office of the Prime Minister of India so that the Government of India can take appropriate measures to protect the minorities in Bangladesh.?
