tribute was paid to Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya on his martyrdom day on February 11. Functions were organised across the country. Veteran BJP leader Shri LK Advani paid tribute at the BJP head office in Delhi. RSS Sahsarkaryavah Shri Suresh Soni paid tribute at a function held at Deendayal Research Institute in Delhi.

Shri Suresh Soni highlighted three aspects of Deendayalji’s life—individual, ideologue and conduct. He also spoke about the integral humanism and said this kind of economic thinking suits the nation even today. Shri Saroj Da from Swadeshi Jagran Manch also spoke on the occasion.

At Pt. Deendayalji’s birth place in Nangla Chandrabhan, Mathura, a three day event was organised from February 9 to 11. At the event free dental and health camps were also organised. Thousands of people from the neighbouring areas availed the benefit of the camps. A grand condolence meeting was organised on February 11, which was addressed by Kshetra Sanghachalak Dr Darshanlal Arora. He stressed the need to awaken the good people to take the nation forward. He said Deendayalji showed the country a path to progress and to live in a meaningful way. Former Vice Chancellor of Maharishi Dayananda University, Ajmer, Dr Purushottam Chaturvedi also spoke on the occasion.

Nizam’s Secularism

Dr TH Chowdary

Speaking in the AP Legislative Assembly in January 2014, Akbaruddin Oweisi claimed that the last Nizam, Osman Ali Khan was secular and that none should accuse him of communalism. Akbaruddi’s father, the late Sultan Salahuddin Oweisi, while speaking in the Lok Sabha ( in the 1990s) asserted that he alone could be called secular, whom he could certify to be so! Secularism in Indian parlance is without definition or description; it is shapeless like a hat worn by several people. In the case of the last Nizam, secularism has the following content:

* 90 per cent of the Nizam’s subjects were Hindus whose mother tongue and spoken languages were Telugu, Marathi and Kannada. Yet, Urdu, the language of the 10 per cent Muslims, was the official language in government in the High Court and schools and colleges and the university. Government did not support non-Urdu schools.

* 90 per cent of government jobs were with the 10 per cent Muslims.

* All the Prime Ministers of the Nizam were Muslims only – Laik Ali, Nawab of Chatari, Sir Mirza Ismail, Sir Akbar Hydari.

* Arya Samaj of Hindus was banned but not Deen Dar Anjuman which was engaged in aggressive conversion of low caste Hindus to Islam.

* The State Congress was banned but not the Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen.

* Vande Mataram was not allowed to be sung at any public place.

* Hindu names of towns were changed to Muslim names; Palamuru to Mahabubnagar, Induru to Nizamabad; Manukota to Mahbubabad; Yanamalaganda to Karimnagar etc.

The Nizam, Osman Ali Khan himself wrote the Ghazal :(Source: Hyderabad Destruction) band naqoos hua sunke nidaye takbir zalzala aa higaya balqae zunnar pet ha. Which means The conch (instrument used to announce prayer time in Hindu temples) has become silent after hearing the voice of the takbir (kalma, Islamic prayer).
