Senior BJP leader Dr Prithvi Singh ‘Viksit’ is no more

Veteran BJP leader of Uttarakhand Dr Prithvi Singh ‘Viksit’ passed away at his residence in Roorkee on January 22. He was 83. He is survived by his wife Smt Kamla Devi, two sons, Adesh Kumar and Abhinandan Kumar, three daughters, Kalpana Saini, Suchitra Saini and Reeta Saini.

Many senior leaders belonging to various social, religious and political organisations paid their tribute. Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari visited the family to condole the demise of the senior party leader. Acharya Balkrishna from Patanjali Yogapeeth also paid his tribute. Rajya Sabha MP Shri Tarun Vijay, Swami Chinmayananda, RSS Prant Pracharak Dr Harish, RSS Kshetra Prachar Pramukh Shri Kripashankar, state BJP general secretary Shri Gyan Singh Negi, BJP Kisan Morcha state president Shri Sushil Chauhan also condoled the demise. MLAs of all political parties from Haridwar district, party leaders of the district, Mayor of Roorkee Yashpal Rana and Mayor of Haridwar Shri Manoj Garg also paid their tribute.

Born on January 5, 1932 at Shivdaspur Teliwala village in Haridwar district Dr Prithvi Singh ‘Viksit’ was elected MLA twice from Roorkee Assembly seat in undivided Uttar Pradesh in 1991 and 1993. He was made a Minister of State for Irrigation in Kalyan Singh Government in 1991. He was also  the chairman of Cooperative Bank. In the organisation also he held many responsibilities including state vice president of Uttarakhand, state president of OBC cell, state executive member both in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He was also active in many social activities. The developmental work carried out by him in Roorkee is still remembered by the local people. He also played a key role in electrification of some villages. One of his daughters Kalpana Saini is a senior leader of the BJP in the state and is also active in many social activities in the area. She is also an leading educationist.
