undefinedWhen Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was talking to Nawaz Sharif, a group of heavily-armed militants tried to infiltrate into Kashmir through Keran sector on September 24. The bid to make it another Kargil was foiled by Indian Army. The Indian army said on October 5 that it killed seven terrorists in two separate gunbattles along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector, as the operation against the infiltrating ultras in the area ended on the 14th day.

Three rebels were killed on October 4 in another clash near the border, said the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, in line with military policy. He said the Indian army recovered 6 bodies and some weapons.

The Indian army says a large number of insurgents trained and armed by Pakistani forces try to enter Indian territory each year around this time, before snow starts blocking Himalayan passes and their movement.

Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh, an Indian army commander in Kashmir, said on October 2 that Indian soldiers encountered up to 40 rebels on September 24 in Shala Bhata.

120 ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Jammu in the New Target

A Defence spokesman has said that Pakistani troops have engineered over 120 ceasefire violations along Jammu & Kashmir in 2013 till now.

Of the 120 incidents of firing from across the border, 98 ceasefire violations have taken place in Jammu region along LoC in South of Pir Panchal ranges, while others have taken place along the border in Kashmir, he said.

The ceasefire violations are highest this year than the past five years.

Major recent infiltrations by Pakistan, 2013

September 7      At least four persons including two militants were killed in a cross-firing with the CRPF personnel at Shopian town of Shopian District. Nine persons, including five Policemen, were injured in a grenade attack by unidentified militants in Pulwama town of Pulwama District.

September 11   One person, identified as Rafiq Ahmad Rather (28), was killed and two others were injured as SF personnel allegedly fired on ‘protesters’ who were demanding shifting of a CRPF camp from Shopian town.

September 14   A former HM militant was shot dead by unidentified militants at inside his home in Ramnagri village of Shopian District and a militant was killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in Macchil Sector of Kupwara District.

September 17   SFs killed two HM militants, identified as Aqib Rashid and Bilal Ahmad at Goshbugh village in Pattan area of Baramulla District.

September 25   Army foiled an infiltration bid by militants at the LoC in the Keran Sector of Kupwara District, killing 12 militants in the operation.

September 26      13 persons were killed in twin suicide attacks in the State in the morning of September 26. A total of 10 people, apart from three militants, were killed during the attacks. The dead include four policemen and two civilians in Kathua District and four army personnel, including Lieutenant Colonel Bikramjeet Singh (39) in Samba District.

Another Kargil in Keran Sector?

Immediately the next day of Manmohan–Sharif meeting in New York, the news about major infiltration by Pakistani military special troops and heavy ongoing fighting has emerged in Indian villages of Keran Sector.

Can the government explain to the public why this subterfuge? What has the Prime Minister achieved by meeting Nawaz Sharif beyond confirming he is made of putty? Did the coterie of the Foreign Minister and the NSA convince him that he would be given preference over President Putin being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize? Does the government realise the consequences of these actions; encouraging Pakistani military, J&K separatists and terrorists operating within J&K with or without political support? Does it require another terrorist attack on Parliament or political assassination to understand that what is happening in Keran Sector today is but the trailer of what is going to happen next year when Americans quit Afghanistan?

What has the Prime Minister achieved by meeting Nawaz Sharif beyond confirming he is made of putty?

Nawaz Sharif is no dehati (village) woman who is bending backwards to the Pakistani military. He has done so since years including during his previous tenures consistently and has displayed his crookedness to both Prime Ministers, Gujral and Vajpayee. Yet, despite upping the ante through terror attacks, cross border raids, beheadings and ceasefire violations, those insisting on hugging them only prove they are sold out. He has the foxiness of extracting more Sharm-el-Shiekh before our NSA can say Jack Robinson. Why do you think he is permitting funding millions to terrorist organisations from his constituency and not making the slightest move against anti-India terrorists and their infrastructure aside from boasting of a new counter terrorism policy that is full of holes. Leave aside recent actions, following record of Pakistan can only be ignored by fools:

p Breeding terrorism in India – Need more proof than David Headley and now Tunda?

p Infiltrating terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir.

p Creating an armed terrorist architecture pan-India since early 1990’s.

p Engineering endless terrorist attacks / acts in Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Gujarat, other parts of India including IC-814 hijack, attack on Parliament, 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack etc.

p Refusing to act against Pakistani perpetrators of 26/11.

p Nurturing, patronising and masterminding LeT acts against India.

p Using the Haqqani network to target Indians and Indian interests in Afghanistan.

p Pumping drugs and fake currency (minted in Pakistani Government facilities) into India.

p Open rallies in Pakistan professing balkanisation of India, collection of funds and recruitment for jehad against India under the very nose of the administration and with open support of military veterans in connivance with the ISI and military.

p Refusal to acknowledge continuation of the ‘Karachi Project’ and other Pakistani complicity as disclosed by Abu Jundal.

p Virus arracks on Indian networks.

p Uploaded morphed images of death and destruction through cyclones and earthquakes as alleged atrocities committed on Muslims through MMS and video clips to our North-East population, inciting communal tensions and generating large exodus from Bangalore and other cities.

Can we not comprehend that both Nawaz Sharif and his military want an Afghanistan like situation in J&K or are we going to shut our eyes because of communal politicking and criminalisation of politics?

(Excerpts from article by Lt Gen Prakash Katoch, Indian Defence Review)

Sushilkumar Shinde admits ‘lapses’ in response to Jammu terror attack

Four soldiers, six policemen and two civilians were killed in the terror attack in Jammu region on September 26. Three militants, presumably from Pakistan, were also killed. Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde October 10 admitted “some (security) lapses” in dealing with militants who attacked in the Jammu region on September 26, killing 12 people. “Some lapses (were) there. We are inquiring,” Shinde told reporters. He said the Centre had sought a report on the attack. Shinde said there had been attempts of infiltration from border and Line of Control with Pakistan. The heavily armed militants had first barged into a police station in Jammu region, killing eight people, and then drove off with a truck to attack an army base where they shot dead an officer and three soldiers.            (IANS)
