undefinedIndia Policy Foundation (IPF) organised a talk show on July 13 on apparent threat from across the border of China and a monograph was also released on the occasion by senior journalist from the Hindustan Times Shri Pramit Pal Chaudhuri.

Speaking on the occasion Chaudhuri said the problem with China started with the resurrection of the issue of South Tawang, while incursion is a well known issue which is on an average 200 per year. This is making things all the more tense between both the nations. But China is only afraid from Indian media and it is also trying to deal with it in its own way. It is also trying to influence intellectuals by inviting them to China and investing money by institutional means. He said that from the problems that are reported in the media it visible that China does not hold India in a good esteem and does not respect its democracy rather. In fact it has got no suspect for democracy at all. So, China does whatever it wishes to, while the main reason for India to deal with China is that it is unable to understand what the
intention of the China towards India is.

Shri Chaudhuri finds a bizarre kind schizophrenia in the Chinese policy towards India as it does not find India a credible nation and finds India a chaotic nation. The other confusion that prevails about China is whether the decisions are taken by the government or the decision are already taken by People”s Liberation Army (PLA) and later on the government get to know about it. Now, Chinese are trying to co-opt Indian media. They are investing money in India like they have invested $400 million in Indonesia. But despite emerging as a bigger economic and military power, Shri Chaudhuri said, China has problem with Vietnam, Philippines, Mangolia and many others. No country bordering China has good relation with it. It has unknowingly triggered hostility among the Indian people so much even more than Pakistan.

Another speaker Dr Rajiv Nayan said, “We have been objecting to the term threat from China which is a reality in my opinion. However, China claims that military option is only for Taiwan.”

There are several things that might cause problem for India. He said, “Increasing strength is one threat; new developing policy is another threat; intention of China for India matters; international situation is another factor that is puzzling India.”

He also added that China is hugely investing on intellectuals, policy makers and scientists across the world to tilt policies towards it. IPF Hon. director Rakesh Sinha said that during the time of cold war, the US and the USSR were balanced by KGB and the CIA but in the post cold war era China is playing the game with intellectual for its benefits.

Senior journalist Shri Gyanendra Pandey chaired the session. People present on the occasion included RNP Singh of Vivekanand Foundation, Col. Ved Prakash, Brigadier (Retd.) R P Singh, Prof. Harsha and Students of JNU & Delhi University.
