BJP National Council and Executive meeting in Delhi from March 1 to 3
Apart from chalking out roadmap for Lok Sabha polls, which can be held anytime this year, the major challenge before the party is to save its governments in MP, Chhattisgarh and Karnataka and also to snatch power from Congress primarily in Delhi and Rajasthan. Organisationally, the National Council will ratify the election of Shri Rajnath Singh as new party president.

Since half a dozen states of the country are scheduled to go to polls this year and Lok Sabha polls can also be held anytime, the main agenda of the BJP’s National Council and National Executive meeting being held in New Delhi from March 1 to 3 is to gear up for a decisive battle. The National Executive meeting will begin at Talkatora Stadium on March 1. It will be followed by the National Council meeting on March 2 and 3. The Council will be chaired by new party president Rajnath Singh.
Apart from preparing for polls, the party’s national council will formalise new party chief Rajnath Singh’s taking over from his predecessor Nitin Gadkari. This is the first meeting of BJP national executive, the party’s highest decision making body, after Rajnath Singh took over as party president last month. Since the budget session of Parliament began on February 21, the meet is being held in New Delhi instead of going by the earlier plans to hold it in a BJP-ruled state, which is going for elections later this year.
Senior BJP leaders from across the country will converge to discuss the current political situation and chalk out a strategy for elections to the Lok Sabha as well as some state assemblies. All BJP members of parliament from both Houses of parliament, central and state office-bearers, members of legislative assembly and members of legislative council from different states, mayors in different districts and zilla panchayat chiefs will participate in the meet.
Four prominent states of Hindi heartland including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh ruled by the BJP, Delhi and Rajasthan, ruled by the Congress, will go to polls this year. Apart from it Karnataka, which is presently ruled by the BJP, will also go to polls. It is a big challenge before the BJP to not only save its governments in MP, Chhattisgarch and Karnataka but also to snatch power from the Congress in Delhi and Rajasthan. The assembly elections will also be held this year in Jammu & Kashmir and Mizoram. The process for assembly polls in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland will shortly be over.
Apart from finalising strategy for assembly polls in five major states, the party also has to prepare itself for a decisive battle for Lok Sabha polls. There are talks in political circles that the Lok Sabha polls can be held alongwith the Assembly polls in October-November this year. SP chief Mulayam Singh and TMC chief Mamata Bannerjee have already alerted their cadres to be ready for the polls. There are reports that the Congress is also gearing up its cadre for the polls, as forced by the circumstances it may have to announce the polls anytime.
“The assembly polls will be held as per the schedule. We also know that the Lok Sabha elections can be held any time this year. The UPA government has failed in all fronts and it has cheated the nation. Therefore, apart from the organisational matters, the UPA government’s ‘failure’ to check price rise, corruption and threat to internal security will be discussed in the National Council Meet,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar while talking to Organiser in New Delhi.
He further said the meet would also deliberate upon the ways to apprise the people across the country with the ‘failures’ of the UPA government. “The meet will discuss in detail the political situation, state of the economy, internal and national security, bad governance, price rise and corruption in UPA government,” he added.
He said the BJP would emphasise on its aim of reaching out to the last man in the queue as part of its ideology of Antyodaya. “The worsening economic situation in the country under the economist Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will also be discussed,” Shri Jawadekar said. He claimed that the UPA government is on ‘crutches’ of the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party and may lose their support anytime leading to polls.
According to Shri Jawadekar, prominently, two resolutions will be passed at the meeting. The economic resolution will deliberate upon the economic condition of the country and will also highlight the plight of the farmers. The political resolution will highlight all major issues ranging from terrorism to corruption and also the cheating that the Congress-led UPA government has done to the entire nation.
