Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) felicitated persons who have made significant contribution in their respective fields or acted with courage when the situation demanded. The function was organised in Chandigarh on August 24.

Shri Mukesh Mittal, who bravely rescued a child from being run over by a train and lost a leg in the process, rightfully took the limelight. He was accompanied by his wife Poonam. Both are accomplished sportspersons. The list of the people honoured included Captain Prachi, the first woman from Punjab to have scaled the Mount Everest at the age of 28. Being an Army Officer, she was already fit but she took rigorous training for one and a half years for the feat. Around 600 students were also honored on the occasion. Punjab Health Minister Shri Madan Mohan Mittal inspired the students to aspire for higher goals.                         (FOC)
