Countrywide protest against J&K interlocutors’ report begins

The entire nation rejected the interlocutors’ report on Jammu & Kashmir in one voice. Various social, religious and cultural organisations of the country joined the nationwide protest on July 6, the birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee who had sacrificed his life for saving Jammu & Kashmir. Burning the copies of interlocutors report at some places the protestors warned in clear words that no attempt to tamper with the integrity of J&K would be tolerated.

The protest is being conducted at district headquarters all over the country. However, at some places the protest was organised on July 5, but in majority of the states the protest meetings and dharnas will be organised from July 6 to 8. The protest will continue till July 16. After the protest meetings, a memorandum will be presented to the authorities concerned for the President of India requesting to reject the interlocutors report with immediate effect.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, Jammu Kashmir Bachao Manch and several other like minded organisations extended full support to the protest.

According to Shri Ashutosh Bhatnagar, director of Jammu Kashmir Study Centre, the objective of the protest is to apprise the people of the conspiracy being hatched with the connivance of the UPA government against Kashmir. He said the Interlocutors’ report is a treasonous document, which has been prepared to fulfill the objectives of the separatists only.

According to reports, in Karnataka the protest was organised on July 6. In Bengaluru, the protest was held in front of Town Hall. Shri Pranesh Nagari, president of Kashmiri Hindu Association, Shri V Nagaraj, senior RSS functionary and Shri Ullas, co-convener of Hindu Jagaran Vedike addressed the gathering.

The protest in Delhi will be organised on July 16. In Agra region of Uttar Pradesh the protest was organised on July 6 while in Meerut region it will be organised on July 8. In Jaipur, the protest meeting was organised at Bari Chaupad on July 6. BJP MP Tarun Vijay addressed the protesters. In other parts of the State also the protest was organised the same day.

The awareness campaign against interlocutors’ report had basically begun on June 23, the martyrdom day of Dr Mookerjee, by organising seminars and symposiums all over the country. Till now seminars have been organised in all the major metro cities including Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, etc.

The Home Ministry had constituted the three member interlocutors group on October 13, 2010 to find a solution to Jammu Kashmir issue. The interlocutors submitted their report on October 12, 2011. The Home Ministry after suppressing the report for 7 months made it public only on May 24 this year. Prima facie, the report is highly objectionable and damages the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the nation.  (FOC)
