National conference of NMO

The national conference of National Medicos Organisation (NMO) was organised in Patna recently. The two-day conference was attended by over 500 doctors from 15 states. The conference expressed concern over the growing commercial mentality among medical practioners and appealed to them to take up the profession as sewavrati and not as a businessman.

Addressing the conference, organised at RSB Auditorium of Patna Medical College and Hospital, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Sushil Modi expressed concern over the shortage of doctors in the country. “India produces hardly 30,000 doctors every year, whereas we need about six lakh doctors and nurses. On the other hand, China produces 1.75 lakh doctors every year. Another problem in India is that majority of the doctors do not want to practice in rural areas,” he said.

Earlier, Health Minister of Bihar Shri Ashwini Kumar Chaube inaugurated the conference. Noted medico Dr SN Arya, Dr Narendra Prasad, Dr Shanti Rai, national president of NMO Dr Pawan Agrawal and national secretary Dr Satish Mishra also addressed the conference.
