National Council meeting of Adhivakta Parishad in Raipur?

Need to make present judicial
system more credible?

—Justice VS Sirpurkar?

$img_title“A good advocate practisces with simplicity and always opposes the unfair practices in the profession. The profession of lawyer is an acid test and one has to face many difficulties to become a good lawyer. It is the collected duty of all to make the present judicial system of the country more credible,” said former judge of Supreme Court Justice Shri VS Sirpurkar. He was inaugurating the two day National Council meeting of Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad in Raipur on December 29, 2011.

Over 250 advocates from different parts of the country participated in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by national president of the Adhivakta Parishad Justice (retd) Shri S Parvath Rao. Apart from many senior leaders, working president of the Parishad Shri Baldev Mahajan, national general secretary Shri D Bharat Kumar and national organising secretary Shri Kamlesh Singh were also present at the meeting. The meeting began with lightening of the traditional lamp by Smt and Shri VS Sirpurkar.

Justice Sirpukar appealed to the Adhivakta Parishad to develop good advocates for the profession, as it is the good and healthy advocacy that would strengthen the trust of people into the judicial system. “It is also necessary for strengthening the democracy in the country,” he said. He encouraged the advocates to participate in the activities of Legal Act. In his an hour long speech Justice Sirpurkar cited many examples and anecdotes to energise the lawyers.

In the beginning, Justice (retd) Shri S Parvath Rao explained the theme of the meeting. National general secretary Shri D Bharat Kumar presented a brief account of the Adhivakta Parishad activities. Chhattisgarh state president Shri PK Nishad welcomed all the delegates.

Delegates from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh attended the meeting.

The meeting also passed a resolution—Threats to Democracy: Our Response. “Due to corrupt and anti-democratic behaviour of the Government there is tremendous increase in black money, naxalism, criminalisation of politics, trans-border terrorism and erosion of ‘rule of law’ and diminishing fundamental elements and values alongwith internal security, food safety, independent police, national sovergnity and federal structure. The Adhivakta Parishad feels that there is dire need for urgent election reforms and deep introspection of the Constitution for resurgent Bharat,” the resolution said.
