A sports talent from Assam

Kalyan Ashram conducts sports competitions at village, block, district and State level to explore sports talents of Vanvasi youths. After every four years, the organisation conducts national level sports competition. This year six such national games and sports competitions will be held in Pune from December 29 to January 1. All the states are now busy in conducting State level competitions, which give an opportunity to the Vanvasi youths of remote villages to exhibit their talents. Some extraordinary players get chance of training at Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres.
The State level competition of Assam was conducted at Tejpur from October 28 to 30. On October 30, a marathon race was conducted. Junior girls had to run 14 km. Medical check-up was conducted a day ahead of the competition. Unfortunately, a girl, Priyanka Bodo, was declared unfit to participate on medical grounds. She was disappointed but she was confident that she could complete the marathon. She repeatedly requested the organisers to consider. Ultimately the organisers permitted her to run without chest number and instructed her if she feels exhausted she can leave the competition any time. Priyanka was very happy. As competition begins she started running with smiling face. She took the lead. Surprisingly, not only she completed the race but also she won the race. Other players were tired but Priyanka was not. Now, she is preparing for national games. Self-confidence is the key for success. Best of luck to Priyanka.
