NEWS ROUND-UP-1

Twelfth death anniversary of noted social activist the late Oja Shankar, who played a key role in expanding nationalist activities in north-eastern states, was celebrated at Oja Shankar Vidyalaya at Kharasom village under Ukhrul district of Manipur on October 26.

Recalling the contribution of Oja Shankar, Shri Ringphami said Bhaiji, as Oja Shakar was popularly known, came far from Maharashtra to the remote village, New Tusom, of Manipur in 1973 and worked as a teacher for one year. He became one with the local Tangkhul community. Every year he visited Manipur and Nagaland to take needy students to other states for education. He took nearly 300 students from both the states. Senior Kalyan Ashram activist Shri Atul Jog and Shri Kedar Kulkarni also spoke on the occasion.  (FOC)
