Mayawati’s misstep In a State where even primary health care is in a shambles and poverty is rampant, waste of taxpayer’s money on building parks and statues is appalling. Should the downtrodden come to the park and pay deference to the lifeless statues every day and eulogise Mayawati, then go back empty stomach to get abused by the police, other authorities and the upper castes? UP is already bearing the burden of heavy debt as well as scoring poorly in most development indices. If that huge sum of money had been used for the betterment of the dalits and other downtrodden and poor, Mayawati could have truly made a difference. But instead, she has chosen to use taxpayer’s money to build a mythology around herself costing rupees 685 crore with no thought given to the betterment of the people of her State and with the sole purpose of boosting her chances in the next elections. Any defence of Mayawati’s park essentially uses the blame game methodology of, ‘if you could, why can’t I’, to justify the show of power by UP’s self-proclaimed dalit icon. But this defence does not make wasting public money acceptable. The Times View rightly says that a leader should work to enlarge the fruits of development, must continuously strive to improve the standard of living of common people and must work for the larger common good. In this way, he will be able to retain the confidence of the people in the long run.

BJP the net gainer in bypoll (Organiser, 30.10.11); Seeing the present state of affairs in the country, the coming general elections could be a nightmare for the UPA party. Infact with the defeat of the Congress in the bypolls in Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar and Tamil Nadu, its position has now become more vulnerable. On top of it the party’s own Cabinet Ministers are blaming the PM, Manmohan Singh for the state of affairs. It is all downhill of the Congress at the movement and no positive sign seems to be in sight for the party, which is struggle hard to fight the scourge of corruption, inflation, policy paralysis and stalled economic growth. Only a miracle can save the UPA from further blushes.

Defaming Gujarat will not help anti-Hindu brigade (Organiser, 9.10.11); This refers to “Defaming Gujarat will not help anti-Hindu brigade” by MV Kamath. He has given a brief description of excesses and cruelties done in the past and being done now by the Muslims against Hindus. He has also mentioned about what happened on August 16, 1946, ominously termed as ‘DIRECT ACTION DAY’. The then Muslim League Chief Minister of undivided Bengal Mr. Suhrawardy in a public address denounced the Hindus and assured the (Muslim) mob which he was addressing, that the police would not interfere in their action against Hindus. As per page-123-24 Rajaji Story, 20 thousand Hindus were slaughtered (not 10 thousand) as mentioned by Shri Kamath) in just two days in Calcutta alone, and another 15 thousand wounded. It is only to counteract such crimes and sins of Muslims that anti-Hindu brigade is trying to put similar blame against Narendra Modi. But that is not the Hindu culture, to kill unarmed peaceful people. Now let us see as to what was Mahatma Gandhi’s reaction to the killings in Calcutta? Soon after Partition of India and also Partition of Bengal, Gandhiji reached Calcutta and met Suhrawardy on whose provocation 20 thousand Hindus were slaughtered. Instead of saying anything to him Gandhiji just casually suggested, that they should live together peacefully. Thus Gandhiji created close friendship with the killer of Hindus. Why to blame Muslims and Pakistan, when our own Father of the Nation was so cruel to the Hindus, and so kind to the killers.

Resist communal Sachar report implementation (Organiser, 25.09.11); Apropos of the comment on ‘Sachar Report’ by Shri Ravi, your columnist. While the said report had pointed out the economic, educational and overall backwardness of the Indian Muslim community, the commentator has tried to overlook and drag the attention of the readers by citing lack of implementation of the proposed Uniform Civil Code, ban on burqa, abolition of polygamy and emancipation of Muslim women etc, which fall in the category of social problems, as the main cause of Muslim backwardness. I am sorry to say that none of these problems cause backwardness, as Muslims and specially Muslim women are proud of their dignified legal status granted to them under Muslim Personal Law.

Work for a strong, prosperous Bharat (Organiser, 16.10.11); With reference to the front page article ‘Work for a strong prosperous Bharat’ I would like to say that Congress is a paid slave of Pan-Islamic forces. All the Hindus in Congress are Muslims by behaviour. The best and one of the convincing documentary evidence of the same is Islamisation of India on the one hand and usurping of Hindus on the other hand through ‘Communal Violence Bill’. Even without this Bill the Congress and all its allies are competing with each other in ruining Hindus and Hinduism all over India and abroad. In case this draconian Bill becomes a reality, India will become ‘Heaven for Pan Islamic forces and hell for Hindus’. Shri Mohan Bhagwat has rightly said that ‘the Bill is detrimental to national unity’. We all agree and of course really toiling hard for strong and prosperous Bharat through united Hindus.

Incoherent statement of PM Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should have given a positive response to the BJP's persistence demand for investigating Chidambaram, the then Finance Minister (Currently HM) by the CBI for his suspected, alleged role in 2G Spectram Scandle. But PM not only dismissed the demand but also started accusing it by issuing incoherent statement that BJP is frustrated and power hungry and it wants to grab power by one way or other, forcing the government for mid-term poll and trying to destabilise UPA government and so on and so forth. Charges levelled on BJP by the Prime Minister are baseless, ridiculous, irrelevant, hypothetical and indicates frustration of Congress led UPA. Suspected persons should not be given clean chit without conducting thorough and impartial enquiry. But unfortunately it was not done in the case of Mr Chidambaram. Why PM is afraid of investigation if Mr Chidambaram’s image is clean? Declining the investigation of suspected person would amount and creates further suspicion.

Do your best for the disabled December 3rd is celebrated as the “Disabled Day” all over the world. In our country, the condition of the disabled people is not good. Their miserable  condition should be improved. The political leaders, media, NGOs and NRIs should try to do their best for the development of the disabled. Hope, their endeavours may succeed and the condition of the disabled will improve.

All is well that ends well Madam has come back and the government heaved a sigh of relief. Her presence meant that the Gordian knot would be unravelled, for the sutradharini was sure to retrace, retract and resolve the issues that had left the ministers twiddling their thumbs and racking their brains to come out of the morass. In her own inimitable way, pressure tactics and a firm foreign hand made them realise that the 2G Spectrum Scam worth a lac and seventy six thousand crore and the note sent by the finance ministry to the PMO’s office were nothing but a storm in a tea cup. Everyone ran to 10 Janpath and came out with a smile on their face for the cup of tea no longer tasted bitter. Madam’s solution was laced with sugar. Too much dependence Mr Prime Minister on one person gives room for suspicion that no one in the Cabinet is able to arrive at decisions or solve issues. This is a serious flaw, a collective failure and lack of political will in our government.

Stop hooligans Anna Hazare has done well to set the record straight by saying he doesn’t support team member Prashant Bhushan’s views on Kashmir. But that’s how disagreements should be aired in a democracy—through words, not fisticuffs. Free speech is a constitutionally guaranteed right. Brazen attacks on supporters of Anna Hazare by political thugs need to be checked at once. There is no dearth of evidence to identify and prosecute the attackers.

Hindu idols to adorn Pak temples We all Hindus should be thankful to senior BJP leader Shri LK Advani, who during his Pakistan’s visit persuaded the Pakistani government to restore the historic Katasraj Temple situated in the heart of Lahore, Hindu temples one being restored in Pakistan. I felt very happy to learn that the Hindus in Pakistan are making determined efforts to revive their places of worship, which once fell prey to fanatics.
