Promote zero tolerence to terrorists

Hang the criminals of 26/11 and Parliament attack

—Mohd Hamid Engineer

By Virag Pachpore

“The Government of India is more interested in vote bank politics. They do not want to invite the wrath of the minorities, especially the Muslims. They are least bothered about the security and sovereignty of the country. That is why the Government was not implementing capital punishment to Afzal Guru and Ajmal Kasab. If the UPA-II dispensation can not muster enough courage to hang these terrorists, then they should handover them to us. We will execute them in full public view”.

This is not a statement from any of the ‘hardcore’ Hindutva icon like Dr Pravinbhai Togadia or Ashok Singhal or any other in their category. Neither has it come from any of the BJP leader. To the surprise of all, the above statement came from speakers who addressed a massive gathering of Muslims at the Reserve Bank Square at Nagpur on September 23, 2011 under the banner of Indian Muslim Association-Noori (IMAN).

The IMAN Tanzim, as it is popularly known, had organised a massive gathering of Muslims against the growing terrorism in the country. In this congregation the speakers expressed their ire over inordinate delay on part of the government in sending the dreaded terrorists Afzal Guru, who attacked the Parliament and Ajmal Kasab, who participated in terrorist attack on Mumbai, just because they were Muslims.

Mohd. Hamid Engineer, a prominent activist of IMAN expressed his displeasure over growing terrorism and held the Taliban, Lashker, Jamat-e-Islami, SIMI, Indian Mujahideen, and Al Quada for this global phenomenon. He said that it was wrong to paint all Muslims as terrorists. But those involved in these anti-human violent acts were the Wahabi Muslims who do not believe in teachings of Islam as propagated by the Prophet. It was because of them the entire race and religion of Muslims was getting a bad name globally, he added.

Engineer also attacked the so-called saffron terrorism, Naxalism and Maoism and Bodo terrorism in Assam saying that they did not endorse any violent act by any group. Launching a tirade against Osama-bin-Laden, Mulla Omar and others he said that the Wahabis were the killers and we sunnis were their victims.

He said that many a countries today were blaming Islamic terrorism for the global violence and in the process defaming the Islam which was basically the religion of peace and brotherhood. This was totally wrong. “In fact, this is the Wahabi terrorism. These Wahabis are targeting the Sunnis and physically eliminating them in India and  in different countries. This is very  pathetic”, he said.

Giving statistics Hamid Engineer said that on January 12, 2004 an urs was organised at Silhat at the durgah of Hazrat Shah Jalal Baba in which thousands of Sunni Muslims participated. At that point of time there was a massive explosion in which hundreds were killed or maimed. The Bangladesh police arrested 13 terrorists along with a woman – all Wahabis— responsible for this incident.  Similar incident took place in Pakistan on March 20, 2005 where Sunni Muslims were targeted.  On October 26, 2010 six Sunni Muslims were killed by the Wahabis in Punjab province. On April 3, 2011 41 Sunnis perished in three bomb blasts in Dera Gazi Khan Sakhi Sarvar while 125 were injured. On July 1, 2010, 60 Sunnis were butchered by these Wahabis in Lahore in Pakistan, he informed the gathering.

“We will not tolerate any type of terrorism hereafter unleashed by these Wahabi Muslims against the peace loving Sunnis any where in the world”, he declared to the thunderous applause of the audience.

The Waqf Board constituted for the Sunni Muslims has been hijkacked by these Wahabis and blamed Ahmed Patel, senior Congress leader and close confidante of Congress president Sonia Gandhi for this goof up.  He said that over 80 per cent Sunni did not have representation on the Waqf Board. Engineer demanded that the Wahabis who have intruded into ‘our Waqf Boards’, should be driven out or separate Waqf Board be established for them. “Islam does not teach violence. It even does not allow you to cut a green tree during war time. How can such a religion justify terrorism and violence in the name of ‘jehad’?” he asked.?
